So I was a diehard Opie and Anthony fab from whenever they went to XM until Anthony first got fired. Then I stopped listening to talk radio until recently my car came with Sirius and my wife and myself have been getting into Howard Stern. As a former O&A fan I always assumed Howard's show was hokey but I really like it. That said I apparently have like 30 years of content to catch up on. Is there a good resource to hear best of clips etc?

Aside from the Opie and Anthony stuff, you're me in 2014.

I think you should pick someone and do a deep dive into their specific content. Wack packers, staff, doesn't matter.

I'd send you the best prank call ever (y'all know which one, ball busting at level red), but it references so many people, that it's best experienced after you've naturally heard those things referenced.

Listen to Mike Walker clips, too.

He said he was doing 30min walking miles to "train", so good to see that he is actually trying. I'm willing to bet he won't finish though.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a boring movie
Howdy Stern thread. I figured this would be the best place to ask about Sirius XM.

I have a new car and got a 3 month trial which expires later this month. Even though I have Apple Music I have enjoyed using Sirius while I have the trial. I'm thinking about keeping it for a while. I checked out the website and it looks like the best deal that includes Howard is the Streaming Platinum for $1 for the first 3 months, then $11 a month.

Are there any better offers out there with a promo code, secret URL, etc?

Also, what's Howard's current schedule?

Lifespan

My experience with SiriusXM is you have to call in to cancel to get a better deal. I have been doing the $99/year thing for the whole package for a while now, so just call in to cancel and say no to every offer until they give you a better price. I think I have seen some people get down to $75/year, but I have never been offered that.

Howard is on 3-4 hours Mon/Tues/Wed, but takes a ton of time off. If there is any random holiday that week, expect the show to be off the whole week. And starting this year, they don't work over the summer either.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I have Sirius XM, but this will be the last year I get it. I don't listen to Howard anymore as he's turned into the person he used to mock ~10 years ago. Even a lot of the older stuff can be cringe-worthy in this new day and age. To be honest, this thread has been the best part of being a fan.

Yeah I did not reup a couple of months ago which I didn't think would ever happen. Just wasn't worth the value to me anymore. The music channels that I listened too were the same thing over and over again. Dash radio is free and filled that void of having a radio station that just plays a nice mix, and they have a pretty good alternative channels with no commercials to boot.
I figure anything important I'll find out from this thread or it will be on YouTube.

My year is up in two months and despite the fact that I listen to every episode of Stern, I don't plan on renewing either. It is a really good service overall and I will miss some of the channels, but it's redundant with other services I pay for other than Stern and the even further reduced schedule just makes it not worth it. Howard has made it clear he is gone in 4 years and the show really is limping over the finish line. I might come back for the last 6-12 months of the show just to hear the last lap, but I feel like the next few years will be skipable.

Yep. I did it earlier this year, but I got rid of Howard and kept everything else for like $50 for a year. The best call to cancel in my life was to Comcast recently. I called them and told them that another company was offering 1GB down with unlimited data for like $70 a month, and Comcast matched it to include all taxes and fees + modem rental for $70 a month on the nose for 2 years.

I do miss checking in with Howard, but Brent's drama was the last time I truly enjoyed the show. Him departing was like the next to last nail in the coffin, with COVID being the final nail.

The show still gets laughs out of me and the interviews are usually pretty good, but it's definitely far more toned down than it was ever a few years ago. He also spends WAY too much time talking about reality TV and his wife. He also repeats viewpoints and sayings so commonly now it reminds me of talking to my parents (who are about his age).

If Eric was still alive, he'd truly be the only bright spot of the whole show.

Howard's current demeanor and show flow would still allow for ETA shenanigans, I'm sure. That's the beauty of Eric; he could fit into any Stern era, past or present.

Tonight on the way home from a work holiday party I listened to a YouTube clip of Sal & Richard getting their balls shocked with a dog collar and laughed harder than I have in months. It was free. Even during that, Howard was being such a wet blanket that I couldn’t ever imagine paying any money to hear any more from him going forward. Everything worth listening to is already available on YouTube.

I called in to do the cancel for a better price thing and instead they just immediately canceled my service and said have a nice day. I mean, hooray for customer service but I thought the counter offer hung was a slam dunk.

That was like 2015 and I never signed back up. A few times I did free trials on a throwaway email because something interesting was happening, but the last time I did that they were on vacation for the entire trial and all the on demand content was either boring new stuff or famous bits where I could spot the edits. No thanks.

I saw Chuck Zito at the Rainbow Room one night (not the one Fred fell down the stairs of, the one on Sunset in LA) and he was eating a pizza by himself in this booth that was separated off from everyone else and he had security guys standing there. No swapping spits that I saw. David Spade was there that night too but I think he's there every night tbh.
