up until like 8 mo our kid was always waking up for a night time feed until one night, we let her eat as many fish sticks as she wanted and then slept for 12 hours straight. now we are clued into her eating propensity, and it’s not much of an issue anymore. the anemia thing is worrisome though, I’m a vegetarian but I don’t have any quibbles about my daughter eating meat. still, it’s not something I cook often and beyond throwing chicken breasts in the oven, my meat-based skill set is lacking. she narfed down some precooked meatballs tonight tho, so that’s encouraging.

My 9 month old girl continues to impress by continually using a mini hockey stick to push a ball around and is consistently standing from sitting, pulling herself up on things, and walking one of those push toy things She is also fond of little scares and jumping around corners, also just like her dad She can also kick a ball while holding on to something and is beginning to clap on her own All this poo poo happening in that tiny rear end brain but I can't get her to avoid the corners of the loving table at her uncle's house god drat it kid, stand over here

Played Risk with my first grader over the weekend. I kept suggesting other games but they insisted. lol come at my European stronghold with your weak rear end armies from west/north Africa. lol didn't watch your flank while I took the south from my outpost in Madagascar. Yeah so they cried a lot when they realized they were going to lose. Good times. Also lol poor thing attacked me with 3 dice, I defended with 1. I rolled a 3, they rolled a 2 and two 1's. Just lmao the worst luck. That turn was what really set off the meltdown.

I play D&D with my kids and its extremely fun. One is a druid with 3 pet wolves who tries to talk to animals on everything she meets and the other is a murder-happy barbarian. A very funny pair.

Oh you want to talk about board games teaching to kids? I started them with Go Away Monster, which is fabulous. You put a bunch of oddly shaped cardboard into a bag, pull one out, and if it's a lamp, bed, painting, or toy, put it on your board. If it's a monster, you throw it back into the box and yell "Go away monster!" first one to complete their board wins but who the gently caress cares. Teaches taking turns, shape recognition without sight, not being scared of monsters. Beyond that, and not counting "play with pieces without rules", Splendor is great for my 6yo, I taught him the basics of Go, and we're hoping to get him into various euros and complicated games in the future. The topic of "how do I naturally teach a progression of games to my kids" is a long, widely discussed topic.

We also went with Jr Catan (which is *way the gently caress better* than the full game, in the same way jr monopoly is as well, which is to say it's playable, barely), memory style games, some card games, some dexterity games. My kid can play Crokinole pretty well by now, he loves the flicking.

Animal Upon Animal is so loving fun. One of the best games. The first grader still loves playing it. We've gotten a good 4+ years out of that game, and with the toddler getting into it, it's going to last quite a while. We tried Go Away Monster but the kids got scared of the monsters anyways.

animal upon animal is great because you can fit all the pieces into a plastic baggie and can start a game anywhere before the kids get bored. also it's a fantastic drinking game Monza, HABA's racing game, is also fantastic, and does not require reading my oldest is 9. in the last few years, we can finally play games like Quacks of Quedlinburg, My Little Scythe, Wingspan, etc and it's great

heroes and treasure is a fun d&d lite that can be played with young kids with low attention spans. i managed to have my then 7-year-old and 5-year-old enjoy exploring a dungeon and killing monsters while their 2-year-old sister used the leftover pieces to make a bedroom for one of the skeleton monsters. the rulebook is a bit rough around the edges, but that's what home rules are for

honestly i prefer the kids version of both Ticket to Ride and Catan. both are boring as poo poo in their full versions, the junior editions streamline a bunch of old mechanics, and if i'm going to play them i'd rather only spend 30 minutes each game so we can try out a couple of strategies a few times in a row and talk about them carcassonne is another game that doesn't need reading and is easy enough to teach pretty drat young. don't play with fields and it's crazy how much easier it is to play. also, kingdomino. and if you want to get into card games beyond your regional hearts/spades/euchre/pitch, i very, very strongly recommend papayoo. trick taking game where you don't want to take the tricks. basically Sorry: The Card Game, but somehow never feels mean-spirited when someone fucks up and takes all of the points. also, great implementation on Board Game Arena.

My 11 year old just came home from school in tears because her best friend told her she cries too much and acts like a baby sometimes. Its like the only friend she really clicks with and she's devastated. I parented the moment well and sent her back to school after lunch feeling better but I remember exactly what that feels like.

She's got a speech impediment that is mostly therapied out of existence but the baby comment really extra stings because of it. She's my favorite person, loves watching MST3K with me and we go for sushi and shop for comics together. I wish she could find a little supernerd to be her friend.

I think my 11yo stepdaughter would love your 11yo, and she is the gentlest, kindest human I have ever met. except that she would gently caress someone up for picking on another kid, which I will give a pass she’s actually been struggling this year a bit because people in her class are picking on someone who is “*stage whisper* a real a-hole” and she feels like she should stick up for him but she doesn’t want to be around him. I’m trying to help her feel OK with setting boundaries, which feels like a timely lesson on a couple of fronts (also used to have a slight speech issue, yay therapy)

Oh man that's really kind, maybe we can get them together sometime. I would love that, I don't know how that works right now with COVID etc. We just started masked indoor playdates up again in the last couple of weeks, but hopefully by Christmas our kids will be fully vaxxed up here. Parenting content: I took the opportunity to teach/remind my daughter that who she is and her value as a person is based on herself not on what other people think or say about her. I'm still working out that one in my middle aged self. e: I'd be happy to see you as well Subjunctive

Is there any evidence that recovering from COVID provides better protection than the vaccine? Given that the vaccine only lasts a few months, what's the end game here? To vaccinate kids until adulthood? But there might be vaccine escape at some point. Is it possible it's best to just let kids get COVID (obviously all adults around them should be vaccinated)? I'll probably get our 5 year old vaccinated as soon as it's approved for kids in the EU but I don't know it doesn't seem obvious to me what the best course of action is, what do you guys think?
