I used Dwyer once - in a run where I made Corrin's talent ninja, rushed to marry her to Jakob, Partner Sealed him to Mechanist, and got two early kids with Replicate. Dwyer is a lot better when he's two staffbots at once.

If you're willing to put in the work for having 16 units with Replicate go for it. That's a lot more grinding than I like.

One thing 3H introduced that all games should keep is NG+ letting you buy back certain skills and weapon ranks. That would be perfect for a game like Fates where a bunch of weird poo poo is happening. Rev would be more tolerable in that case too

Yea Replicate is a bonkers skill, but it's hard to utilise in Conquest because getting to level 15 mechanist takes most of the game, and you really don't need it in BR/Rev because the game isn't that difficult

Of course you can buy skills from other people's units in their castles but that kind of defeats the point, even if it is fun to make hilariously busted units

Yeah, thinking about it there's no reason it wouldn't work, considering it's based on class and not the name of your army listed on the map screen. I'll just assume it does.

I know I'm late to the Nyx talk, but I ran her as an Adventurer in my last CQ playthrough and she was definitely... alright! She helped out during ch.10, and having an extra staff user to replace Wyvern!Elise was nice, but it didn't bring anything crazy.

I will say though, I ran Nyx!Ophelia that run too, and passing down Move +1 was a fun time, even if it wasn't groundbreaking.
Thank you!

I'll probably have to try Adventurer!Nyx on my next playthrough, it's come up too many times for me not to.

It requires an absurd amount of grinding and careful allocation of supports, but IIRC it's possible to get Replicate on like 90% of your army at once in Birthright. I saw a big guide for it somewhere, it requires some fun stuff like A+ supporting Hayato with Kaden to get him into the Apothecary class.

Time for the last of the non route-specific child paralogues, which means the last of the easy grinding chapters. Percy and Forrest will be much harder to recruit.

It's Midori! This chapter's backdrop is very pretty. I want to get a look at that big mountain the background. Shame I don't think the camera goes any higher.

Here we have a big winding forest map in which we must chase the boss down and defeat her before she escapes. Just like Dwyer's map this one can be cheesed very easily, but is also full of relatively easy to defeat enemies full of delicious tasty EXP.

The boss herself escaping isn't much of an issue - the map has plenty of dragon veins that can be used to create shortcuts, and you can also fly straight over the tress.

It's Candice! Probably the most unique character design in the game, and she even gets a unique character model... Just like the guy from Sophie's paralogue, people seem to think she was once intended to be recruitable.

As a boss she's completely unremarkable. Bad stats, no skills, I don't think she'll ever attack you but I can't say for certain. The danger comes with the units escrorting her who will attack you and will hit hard in doing so. The Dragon Herbs she drops are incredibly valuable, but you're guaranteed to get them if you win the chapter so they're not in any danger.

Lots of generics with capped stats here. My units are also quite overleveled with capped stats of their own, but even then I don't have anybody who's going to want to take a hit from both a Sorcerer and a Berserker in the same turn.

There are various dragon veins throughout the map that let you burn through impassible forest tiles to skip large parts of the map. Candice starts considerably far ahead of you and uses her full movement each turn, but with these shortcuts catching up to her is trivial.

...I don't think she will ever use the shortcuts herself, although I can't say for sure. It literally did not occur to me until typing this up.

Midori joins your team from the getgo. Camilla might have good stats, but Midori less so... I have no plans to use her, but I do think both of her promotions are valuable and she has inherited the extremely cool Trample skill. I'll see what her stats look like when she's used her seal.

It has occured to me that Shigure's combat is not very good and he's never going to get his axe rank above E, so I may as well reclass him back to Falcon Knight. He can also have another Freeze staff. If I understand correctly, you have 4 of these with 4 uses each, adding up to a total of 16 uses across the whole game. I have used one so far... I'm absolutely saving some for Chapter 25 and Endgame, but I could easily afford to waste a few more.

Reaching the first vein will take a little effort, but once you've got it the others are much easier to activate. There are a few units whose attack ranges overlap it, so you'll want to send in someone tanky or go heavily on the offensive to reach it safely.

Corrin's here to get the vein, Ophelia easily disposes of the Berserker. Now that she has Swordfaire I can reclass her, there is still one skill I want... But I also want the high speed the class gives. Hmm. I really want Life And Death from Master of Arms to maximise damage output against the final boss, but that class is slower and has worse magic than Swordmaster.

Merchant has better power and bulk and syngerises well with Midori's personal skill that boosts the activation rate of luck-based skills, Mechanist has higher move and access to the extremely useful weapon type that is knives. It also has Replicate and it'll give her Ninja skills after she promotes into it thanks to her inheriting the class from her dad.

Mechanist time. Midori's got a lot of weird skills thanks to her class tree. Quick Salve lets her heal with an item and perform another action on the same turn, but I don't think it's all that useful.

I only sent a very small force north to get the vein, the rest all paired up with my four fliers and flew to the right to cut Candice off. Some of them will go back to thin out her squad, the rest will race to the end to harvest all the EXP.

The Levin Sword's lack of crit chance and 1-2 is great for guaranteeing I'll have a full gauge when I need it. That's one thing I don't like about the gauge in this game, it can make one hit kills when you could have doubled detrimental...

Her and her little group are charging ahead. I'll have to bait them out individually if I want to take them all out for EXP, but if I just wanted to end the chapter I could easily rush in and one round Candace.

I really want Dwyer to get C knives so he can use his Flame Shuriken, which means throwing him in as many pointless combats as possible. He doesn't need to do any damage!

Silas can be on squad-baiting duty, along with Elise to make him bulkier. He's only at D knives right now, I'd like his rank to be higher so he can deal more damage.

Oh and there we go. I don't actually care about him using Steel weapons or anything, but this will increase his might with all knives by 1.

Nina will probably be stuck using E rank swords for the rest of the game, but that's not so bad. Bronze weapons are one of the few ways to not have Berserkers able to crit my units.

None of the enemies further ahead have moved yet except this one Zerk right at the end of the map, who's slowly and angrily making his way over to my army. I wonder why?

The 1 RN hit method Fates uses for 50% and below hit chances make dodge-tanking strong units like this much more risky. 29% no longer means "basically nothing", it is instead an actual genuine 29% chance for you to take a lot of damage.

...well I guess he's better at dodging now.

This is also cool. 5 extra damage with knives. Unlike with all my other units this is not a sign I need to reclass him into something else.

Candace is now unescorted, which means... ignore her and kill everyone else, obviously.

This vein will let Corrin and her crew skip ahead to face the rest of the enemies along with my flying squad. Even if you took your sweet time getting here, this dragon vein should easily let you catch up to the boss.

Decent. That's more damage with the Flame Shuriken!

It might be relatively easy cleanup from here on out, but I still need to pay attention to enemy ranges. This one random flier caught me by surprise...

Camilla is tanky, Nina is... not getting speed like I hoped she would.

I guess this could be useful? She doesn't have any room in her skillset right now, but there might be a situation in which she needs to use it.

Peri this is not very Wyvern Lord of you

You know I'm reasonably sure she won't attack any unit in her range and will instead head for the exit, but she could kill Azura in one shot.

This map is boring and I'm overleveled, who cares I'll just end it. Candace isn't very bulky so most of my army could one round her.

"You AXED Candace? You axe her body like the bandit? Oh! Oh! Jail for Camilla! Jail for Camilla for One Thousand Years!!!!"

These boost all stats by 1 each (except HP). They're like Naga's tear except only half as good. I am forcing myself to use them before the next chapter starts, otherwise I would gladly leave them in the convoy forever to make my other items smell nicer.

That's the last ez EXP chapter done! Now I have to use my brain from here on out.

What do I want to wish for? I guess I'd like to do every map first try from here on out. Statboosters will help with that.

Seems like most of these paralogues end up with the parent realising the Deeprealms are existentially horrifying and a bad idea in general. You'd think all the other parents would stop using them after the first...

Normally I'd end the update now but I want to post stats so I can ask for input on how to use my remaining statboosters. I'm also buying this to help me in Chapter 24 while I remember - Shigure can use it and I want all the Beast Killers I can use.

Silas / Elise A, C for the other two. I tend to go with either something that might help sum up the support or something that looks as weird as possible when taking screenshots for each one...

Midori gets to meet her parents too. Maybe I'll stick her in my army? She's not half bad.

Here are the four statboosters I need to make myself use. And here's all of my army...

The Dragon Herbs I want to give to someone like Corrin or Silas who will be taking a lot of hits and won't be ramming a load of caps, the Goddess Icon I also want to give to someone who both needs the luck and will be taking lots of hits in return, the Spirit Dust could go to either Ophelia or Corrin, the Energy Drop I have no idea. Any suggestions?

Just finished my Hard run today. Broadly enjoyable throughout barring a few deeply unfun gimmicks (kitsune hell, lucky dip potion map, ninja hallway, etc). I'm surprised you haven't put any thought towards a Wary Fighter user. Sometimes (especially in upcoming maps) you just need a spot blocked, which your Bennys of the world can do admirably. So the results are in! That's 6 results for "use them all on Ophelia", 5 votes for "use them all on Camilla", and 1 vote each for some other options. I am updating these statistics as people post while I write this, hopefully there's not a last minute push for giving them all to Seigbert or whoever that I accidentally end up betraying.

I had 4 boosters and two units got nearly all the votes with an almost equal split, so it only makes sense to share. Ophelia gets the Spirit Dust for obvious reasons, and the Goddess Icon because her luck stat was 4 points away from capping while Camilla's was only 2. Unfortunately it won't be possible for her to reach her magic cap of 41 (40 + statue bonus) even if she gets magic on all 4 of her last levels. A shame.

Camilla gets the Energy Drop and the Dragon Herbs. She was 2 points away from capping strength so it's not exactly efficient, but it's too late to back out now. Camilla only needs a single point to cap luck now but otherwise she has no chance of capping anything else. I thought she might have a chance at defense but nope, her natural cap as a WL is 36 and her statue boosts it one higher. I have no idea why they decided defense was her signature stat, even without the statue she's very unlikely to cap it.

I said I'd recruit Izana and Flora, so I may as well build their respective buildings now. Izana and Flora will both show up one battle after you build a level 3 Hot Spring and Flame Orb respectively. This recruitment requirement makes no intuative sense at all and is very easy to miss... The idea of Izana being able to join you feels like a silly easter egg so I kind of get it for him, but why make Flora's recruitment so obscure? I'm sure she was billed as an important character in the game's promotional material.

The Hot Spring does not do anything of note, it just gives you some brief and weird cutscenes. The Japanese version of the game let you buy various swimsuits from the Accessory Shop to use here, but they were cut out in localisations along with the weird face petting minigame.

The Flame Orb is just a magical ballista you can use in castle battles. I guess it might be useful for invasions? I never bothered building them for any reason besides Flora's recruitment.

I really want Corrin to get Life and Death before she hits level 20 so I'll bite the bullet and reclass her. Master of Arms is a weird class, it's basically a faster but less bulky Great Knight without a mount or armour weakness. It is kind of fun to use, but I never really thought any unit who could be one actually wants to, skills aside. Maybe you could reclass Subaki into one if you wanted to make him super tanky in Birthright? Idk.

Midori
Apothecary (HS: Ninja (Kaze), Wyvern Rider (Camilla))
A+ Support Partners: Ophelia (Dark Mage)
Personal Skill: Lucky Charm (Skills that rely on luck to activate get a flat +20% increase to their activation rate)
Growths (With Default Class) [Base]:
HP: 42.5% (62.5) [45]
STR: 42.5% (62.5) [35]
MAG: 15% (15) [5]
SKL: 52.5% (62.5) [55]
SPD: 45% (55) [35]
LCK: 37.5% (42.5) [50]
DEF: 32.5% (42.5) [30]
RES: 32.5% (37.5) [20]

Mighty Midori! Midori is an Apothecary who sells the medicines she brews from her herbs. You can't handle her strongest potions.

Midori's one of the two kids available in Conquest to have a Hoshidan class by default, and Apothecary is a weird one. She's actually the only character in the entire game to have it as her default class. As an actual combat class it's a bit crap - slow and bulky isn't a winning combination for bow users - but it does grant access to the two very weird classes of Merchant and Apothecary.

Camilla as a mother will make anyone viable, but Midori's standard growths aren't very good. She's specced entirely in skill and luck with not much in anything else. Her personal skill is certainly fun for gimmicks but it's not massively useful, especially in CQ when the only Nohrian luck-based skill is the rather underwhelming and unreliable Good Fortune. It combos fairly well with Profiteer if you want the extra cash, and with Kaze paired up with her she will have what is effectively Miracle with an extra 20% chance of activating, but even with capped luck it's not anything you'd ever want to rely on.

As a Merchant Midori will be very good at getting gold bars, but if you want a unit who can do well in combat and annihilate foes with Spendthrift you're probably better off with Mozu. Mechanist is a much better combat class thanks to its ability to use knives, but again if you want a dedicated Mechanist you could probably do better with Kaze... Midori will at least be able to learn skills from the Ninja class just by promoting into one. I do however have the benefit of inheriting both Camilla's excellent growths and Trample on my Midori, so I may as well try her out as a Mechanist and see how she does. Maybe it'll change my opinion of her?

Just like Dwyer she feels like a character that would work better for postgame minmax builds rather than use in story, except there are no postgame maps to use her in. I'm sure a maximum luck Miracle Midori with Renewal and Good Fortune could absolutely annoy some people in online battles, assuming anybody even does those. Maybe even make her a Sorcerer and give her Nosferatu if you really want to infuriate your opponents.

My Rating: Her hair matches her dad's ninja scarf thing!

Subaki does make a decent Master of Arms, and Hinata also. If I use Hinata I almost always have him in the class unless I make him a Blacksmith.

You can build Midori to have 100% Luck activation rate but it requires a bunch of Hoshidan skills and there's only 2 or 3 Luck based skills anyway. Miracle Midori was a bit of a meme for a while.

Midori isn't actually alone in her base class, Yukimura's is also Apothecary. If I remember right, Rinkah is the only full PC in the game who has a normal base class but doesn't share it with anyone else.

Midori's another kid I've used a lot, and I've gotten pretty good mileage out of her in Conquest (with Camilla as a mom several times, even, though I usually grab her earlier and end up passing down Savage Blow instead). I generally pick her up around the time the scaling hits 20/6, go Mechanist to get a shuriken rank, immediately swap to Master Ninja, and generally get a second (or replacement if the RNG was unkind to him) Kaze with better strength, possibly double the Poison Strike, and free Golembane to dismantle puppets/Mechanists and help finish off Stoneborn on maps where that's relevant.

Oh, I was wrong! These two don't show up after beating a map, they just show up after the time in your castle advances one "phase". So building their respective buildings and then waiting a few hours makes them show up. Neat.

Unfortunately neither of them start with any items... They might be a little better receieved if they did. Both of them are staff users so they'll easily slot into your roster as support filler. Izana has an interesing personal skill combined with 2 Hoshidan class exclusive rallies and a pretty good class, Flora is not dissimilar to Jakob statwise and a good contender for worst unit in Conquest. She's not useless, she's just lacking in ways to justify using her over any other staffbot or knife user.

Before I attempt the next map I want some tonics. 2 HP and 2 res for Xander and Silas, and then a defense tonic for Silas too. I had to sell my Blessed Lance to afford these, but somehow I don't think I'll miss it.

This map has a mix of mages and magic weapon users, all of whom are very fast. Selena's... prickly coleslaw will help against them. Are cacti a vegetable?

Time to face Hinoka! She's honestly more of a character in Conquest than she is in Birthright, she was a last minute addition to the royal family from what I've heard and it kind of shows. Not a bad unit or anything, just not really relevant to the plot of her own route...

Garon has a horse! I wonder if the horse is slime too. Riding horses is a thing people did and still do to get from one place to another faster than walking and yet some part of my brain looks at this and goes "uh, continuity error? Garon does not have access to a mounted class???". I think it's the part of the brain used in making posts about videogames online.

Xander's little speech here is quite infamous but I've only read it once and will not read it again. "Justice RIP" is my least favourite map theme in the game and yet seems to be the one that gets played the most on both routes, and I blame Xander for this.

Time to invade the royal family's front lawn. This map is much like the stairs map in that it can either be very fun or an absolute nightmare depending on how you've build your team and how many royals and flying units you have. It is also filled with dragon veins and can potentially be skipped quite easily with fliers... I'm pretty confident I have all the tools I need to make it easy this time around, but in the past this map has stonewalled me for hours and almost made me abandon some playthroughs.

There's a lot of distance between us and the throne but very few obstacles in the way. For a seize map that's generally a good sign, but there is a lot going on here.

Hinoka once again does not move and comes with a DLC only skill that removes her flying weakness and makes her benefit from defensive terrain. She could be a Spear Master instead and things would barely change... It's even her Heart Seal reclass option.

She also has Sol, Luna, Darting Blow, and a pair-up partner to boost her strength and defense. Her stats are very high and she'll be very hard to hit, so if you're planning on cheesing the map with a quick clear you'll need someone who's accurate and has even better offenses than hers. You'll also need to send in at least 3 units, one to defeat her, one to defeat her friend, and a third to seize the throne.

You might think Azama's stats look absurdly inflated compared to what they would be normally, but he really is just that good. Compared to his 20/15 averages he's actually worse in some respects. Azama is the Effie of Birthright, he's got stupidly high growths that don't fit his class at all.

His personal skill no longer triggers thanks to his weapon, but he's still got Counter and he's still very hard to kill. He's now got two Hexing Rods, as if to say "you can't stall me out like last time, you have to attack me before I run out unless you want your whole army hexxed!". You can totally waste all of those uses if you have no shame like I have though.

Setsuna is the Nyx of Birthright in that her stats and growths are stupidly low for what feels like pure spite on the developer's part. She's mildly dangerous here thanks to a combination of high speed, Pass, Swordbreaker, and Seal Strength, but otherwise she's no big deal. Just make sure you can take her out once she's aggro'd since you won't be able to wall her off thanks to Pass.

Hinoka's ability to use dragon veins is what makes this chapter what it is. When you use one, all flying units have their base movement lowered by 50%, and all grounded units have theirs raised by the same. Seeing as half the enemies here are flying and those tend to be the most dangerous, having it activate will generally make things easier for you.

When Hinoka uses one, the opposite happens. 12 movement fliers are very, very hard to deal with, especially when your foot units suddenly find themselves with only 3 move. Each vein lasts for 2 or 3 turns, and Hinoka will use hers whenevr there's no other vein activate. You can override her effect with yours, but she cannot do the same. She does however have infinite uses while you only have a small amount scattered around the map that'll disappear after a single use.

There are two ways to play this chapter: pop veins as often as you can to neutralise her fliers while your grounded units clean up, or let her activate her vein and rush the map with your own fliers. The latter allows you to potentially clear the map in two or three turns, but it also makes it much easier for Kinshis and the like to pick off your weak units like Azura. Generally I go for the former, but I do have 4 flying units of my own, 3 of which have very high stats and the other 1 has staves...

It goes without saying that bows will be useful, but watch out for Bowbreaker on the Kinshi Knights and Aegis on the Falcon Kights. Use Beast Killers or Hunter's Knives when you can, they're much more reliable.

The last big hurdle of this chapter is the reinforcements - they're mean and there's a lot of them, most of which are fliers who come from awkward places. There are three triggers in all. This island here is the first - being in aggro range of any unit on this island here will cause 3 waves to spawn over the next 3 turns. Using a vein to increase the movement speed of grounded units will also increase their aggro range, so be warned!

I think the other island north of your starting point will also trigger those reinforcements, but I'm not 100% sure. The wiki says no but the wiki is frequently wrong.

Trigger number 2 is Setsuna, if she aggros then you'll get another set of 3 reinforcement waves over 3 turns. How close you can get to her without spawning them will again depend on what vein is currently in use.

Lastly, 2 waves will spawn if you aggro any grounded enemies right at the top here. In my opinion you should be rushing the throne with everything you have at this point, hopefully seizing before any of them can start moving.

Here's who I'll be bringing. Xander definitely wants the speed and support so Laslow's coming along to help. Maybe he can eat a hexing rod use?

I'm going to start this out the coward's way - stay put and wait for all the enemies who do move to come to me before triggering any reinforcements. Things might look safe now, but they're about to get very hairy...

Years after Ephraimcopter and Hectorcopter, here is Hinokopter. And unlike them she doesn't need a silly animation edit to propell herself upward, she literally hovers in the air during this cutscene after leaping off of her pegasi and spinning her lance above her head. I don't know if this is cool or if it is dumb. It might be both.

Here come some fliers and here come some walkers. Conquest, for all of its cruel mechanics, is generally nice and fair and does make sure Hinoka can only activate her vein at the end of her turn. You're not going to get a game over because all the enemies suddenly gained 4 points of movement before their turn starts.

Here we go. The map looked fairly devoid of danger before, but now...

...it's entirely coated in red. Turns out 12 range on a flier is a lot! At this point you generally have two options, pop a vein and turn the situation on her or try to wait it out. Activating a vein requires walking onto one of the two islands near the start, and I don't want to trigger the reinforcements so I will attempt to wait it out.

Highlighting the range of the Kinshis lets me easily build a wall of tanky units to keep everyone safe from harm. Bulky 1-2 range units are a lifesaver here, they can lure in attackers and take them out to prevent things from getting crowded.

Not activating Sol and critting to kill on the first counter-attack is just about the worst thing Silas can do for his survivability, so of course he will always do it. I wish there was a knife that could activate skills but couldn't crit.

If a Falcon Knight doesn't have Aegis then it probably has Pass. They are designed to annoy you as much as possible and they are quite good at it! Thankfully Silas can still muscle through them.

They also pack a lot of Bolt Naginatas, so you'll need good mixed bulk. Peri thankfully has this.

I didn't even factor in Bowbreaker into my strategy, I just send Ophelia over here because I thought she could nostank... In fact they wouldn't even be attacking her if it were not for Nosferatu lowering her avoid by 20%. How convenient!

Now I can use my fliers to eliminate their fliers. Kinshis might be annoying but they have garbage stats, even Shigure can take them out fairly easily.

...maybe I should give up and make Silas a Mechanist. It would lower his crit chance as well as raising his defense?

Midori is helping! It's hard to imagine her being too useful outside of this chapter, but I'm glad she's here.

Aegis sucks but thankfully I've got more than enough attackers to get around it.

Azura is a name of Spanish origin that means "Sky Blue". Incidentally, the word "Azure" comes from a French mistranslation of the Arabic word for Lapis Lazuli.

After a couple of turns the vein resets, and I get one turn of having things back to normal before Hinoka reactivates it. The grounded units that immediately aggro'd on turn 1 still haven't quite reached me yet...

Let's see if I can activate VoF now. May as well do it while things are relatively safe.

She got speed and now she's below half health. Nice! Seal Strength does not stack with Draconic Hex's debuff, so all having it will do is increase the strength debuff it gives from -4 to -6 instead of making it -10. It's not worth it.

Oops, accidentally left Elise in range of a Kinshi... Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of things when the enemies move so far that they can get you from off screen!

Weird, they didn't move... That's convenient!

Staying in this thin line between the 2 red zones will prevent any reinforcements from spawning. I want this map as clean as possible before I trigger them.

I am very pleasantly surprised with Elise's levels. I really thought capping her best stats would prevent her from ever getting anything again, but she's been very good at proccing skill. I don't even think she needs Secret Books anymore! B tomes will also improve her accuracy with them a little.

Okay, no more stalling. No other enemy on the map is going to aggro until I push them. Time to take out as many enemies as I can...

Incidentally, that one vein that's just in range of Azama's hex is 1 tile to the right on lower difficulties. Just a minor "gently caress you" from Lunatic!

Ophelia will clean up these Onmyoji at the bottom. Some Kinshis will spawn near her as soon as she does, but she doesn't fear them.

Elise can take out the Onis above them. She only needs a basic Fire tome to do so.

Lastly, Silas will lure out these guys. I've got two different veins I can activate if things go sour...

The two thread-voted favourites get some fairly standard levels for units who have capped a few stats already. Maybe I could buy a Spirit Dust to have Ophelia reach her cap?

Here's wave number 1. 2 Kinshis at the corner of the map might not seem like much, but they can get out of hand quite quickly. Ophelia will deal with them.

You can lure Setsuna from outside of the hex's range when you've activated the vein, something which completely slipped my mind this run. Alternatively you can send in a bunch of fliers to mop her and her cohorts up on player phase, but then one of them would get hexxed.

It's perfectly safe for Elise to be this close to Setsuna, her movement is too low to reach her right now.

...oops. It happened again!!!

This also happened, but it happened on purpose. I have enough mostly useless units to waste on all six Hex Rod charges.

Thankfully Elise had enough HP to survive one Kinshi strike. I really need to make sure this doesn't happen a third time.

Here comes wave number 2. Silas is my best bet for dealing with these, and he's already in position to do so.

You could bring the Hunter's Knife if you wanted to one-shot them with a knife user, but Silas is already so strong he doesn't need it. If anything this just lets him build gauge easier.

...what if I just made Camilla a Sol Master Ninja instead? She could do it, she's married Kaze and can support Beruka for Hero.

The last set arrives, just in time for the vein to wear off and their movement to be reduced. None of these waves were dangerous this time around, but when the map's full of enemies they can be a lot scarier.

The wyvern sisters will show these inferior mounts who's boss! Camilla makes quite a good suppot partner for Elise, she boosts her bulk and magic even further. And no there is not a Kinshi Knight her to shoot her down this time.

I'm close enough to Hinoka that I could potentially risk a flier rush to reach her. Unfortunately if it didn't work I would most likely lose a unit...

Time to bait Setsuna and all of her friends hiding in the shadows. That Oni could deal a lot of damage to Silas with an axe hit, but he can't reach him this turn.

...6 uses it quite a lot. Just 4 left!

I totally misread Setsuna as being cool and collected and above it all when I first played this game. I guess being too dumb to understand the danger you're in is a type of cool.

Two FKs and some grounded mages show up as the first wave. The combination of both is a little hard to deal with.

I need to clear these guys out and Xander can easily afford to eat a hex. Don't need HP if nobody can hurt you!

...and then I forgot about the hexing rod entirely and now half my army is partying in the danger zone. I guess better them than Xander...?

See? Xander did get hexxed! All part of my plan.

He... got defense? And magic? If he had gotten the latter without the former I would have disowned him.

Xander can easily tank with half the hitpoints. He's not the ideal bait thanks to not being able to double, but he'll do.

These reinforcements are more numerous than the last set. 4 Kinshis, all with Bowbreaker.

It's okay, Midori has knives as well as bows.

This final group will engage Ophelia, who I strategically forgot to move and left in range of them. I will pretend I planned this.

Hooray? I guess strength is cool.

Doesn't this map look so much emptier now? As soon as I mop up the reinforcements and waste the remaining hex uses I'll be able to rush the boss.

So long as the vein is activated, I can have my units attack Hinoka without being in range of anybody else. The enemies near her won't aggro, but the reinforcements that spawn the turn after will.

Azura's Japanese name is "Aqua". I think they changed it because they thought it was too on the nose.

Skill again, very nice!

Oh, Hinoka won't use her dragon vein if there's no fliers left on the map! That makes sense. Thankfully there's still some safe places to attack her from without baiting anybody.

I can just walk up to her now. Annoyingly enough this is with Rally Strength... I guess I could just hope for a crit. If Silas gets Luna'd I can always heal him anyway.

I guess Enfeeble isn't the answer this time.

No crits, but Silas did hit both times and dodge in return.

Now would be a good time to show off Hinoka's friend, who has Certain Blow and Life and Death. He'll hit accurately and hard and might lead to a game over if you don't pay attention! Make sure to check that whoever's attacking Hinoka could also survive a round of combat with him if she decides to switch.

Azama heals her up but only by 10 HP. That's what happens when magic is your dump stat and you're a healer.

Hinoka attacks back on her phase, Silas misses one hit and the other gets blocked. Annoying...

Reinforcements appear, some of which fly and therefore trigger a dragon vein usage. Wait, did she attack and do this on the same turn?

Cheating is a serious offense and must be punished, you do not have Galeforce! Thankfully the activated vein means all my fliers can rush in to help, but all I needed was Peri.

Her friend can die also. Anybody could have done this but Corrin needed the EXP, she still needs LaD.

I'll seize at the end of this turn, but before I do it's time for some entirely preventable violence. He's right, it is barbaric! It is also very satisfying.

I am so glad that Seize is at the top and not Dragon Vein. Accidentally activating it and losing the chapter because of it is absolutely something I would do.

That wasn't so bad! All I needed was a super overleveled army full of fliers. This chapter does not normally go so smoothly... My usual strategy is to hop between veins and stall out the movement of the flying reinforcements as much as possible, but this time around I didn't even need to activate a single dragon vein.

Time for you to leave and fade into obscurity. Garon and Iago won't remember you're in this game, it's fine!

Fire Emblem characters love to die pointlessly for honour, Camilla knows this. Your survival is non-negotiable!

Even Fates understands the inherent homoeroticism of threatening your rival with a blade up against their neck. This scene is absolutely an appropriate time for a ship tease.

They're a fruit, actually! Cactus, also known as nopales, is common in Mexican and Mexican-adjacent (like American Southwestern) cooking.

I've noticed just how much Fire Emblem likes to tease Camilla being bisexual, just in case you thought her writing wasn't embarrassingly juvenile enough.

When I cry out for more LGBT representation in this series, characters like Camilla are not what I want.

It would have been fine if they'd just actually let her be bi, IMO. And done the same with enough others for there to be some actual choices available to everyone on both routes. And ideally not mechanically punished you for selecting those choices, though at least with FCorrin missing Kana alone isn't exactly a dire price to pay.

It's not like there's not an in-Fates character justification for gay babies. It's a little-known mechanic, but if you go to a Castle over and over and mutually raise your relationship, eventually you can produce a kid with a random personal skill, even between two Corrins of the same gender.

What if we had a child born from the earth, due to the strength of our bond... and we were both girls?

this pit is full of stat boosters

Only one measly support today, Elise / Camilla B. The obvious comment here is "Camilla isn't merciful and forgiving!" but Elise points that out literally the line after.

I'm broke and I have no interesting prep that needs doing so there's not much to say before I post my army's stats and do some more analyses. It's fun seeing Kana and Sophie team up... The arena is where they should be fighting, not on an actual battlefield.

I have 2 kids left to recruit and I'm grabbing both of them before fighting Ryoma. If all you care about is merely finishing the chapter then it's not too hard just to slowly whittle him to death with a good Corrin and/or some luck, but I really want to see if I can rout the map on Lunatic for the first time ever. It'll be difficult, and it'll take a lot of trial and error and maybe more staff uses than I'm comfortable with, but I'll do it.

I don't know which one I'll get first. Forrest is a staffbot and will always be useful, but Percy's paralogue is a great source of money and I do kind of need that.

Silas has joined the capped stats crew. Hinoka dropped a Speedwings which I need to give out to someone, I'm thinking it'll be either Corrin or Silas, but it doesn't have to be. If I don't immediately use it on Corrin then I'm going to hang onto it until Chapter 25, I want to make sure she's not too slow to avoid being doubled by Ryoma.

Izana
Onmyoji (from Monk) (HS: Samurai, Apothecary)
A+ Support Partners: None
Personal Skill: Peacebringer (Allies and enemies within 2 spaces deal 2 less damage)
Growths (With Default Class):
HP: 45% (45)
STR: 15% (15)
MAG: 35% (55)
SKL 55% (65)
SPD: 30% (45)
LCK: 45% (45)
DEF: 35% (35)
RES: 35% (50)

It's Izana! Leader of Izumo, a nation famed for being neutral in all conflicts to the point of not even having a standing army, is here to fight for Nohr. I guess the developers thought it was a waste to give this guy a portrait and not let you marry him.

Izana is rare in Fates in that he's a unit who's recruitment comes with a cost, which is wasting 3 DVP on a building that is almost entirely useless besides the slight boost to crit avoid it gives you in castle battles. It's not exactly a steep cost in the same vein as spending 20,000 gold to recruit Farina in FE7, but it's still something I feel I should mention when talking about if he's good or not.

Izana shows up after Chapter 22 at the earliest, and his join stats will scale to whenever you recruited him. His high magic and existing staff rank make him ideal as a staff bot, although despite having promoted into Onmyoji from the staff-using Monk class (and being a pacifist!) his tome rank is higher for some reason. Between Elise, the two servants, Flora, Shura, and the two Troubadour kids he's not exactly unique in his staff using abilities, but he's got some stuff going for him that nobody else has.

Onmyoji is a Hoshidan class that you otherwise cannot access in CQ without a specfic Corrin or by marrying Nyx to Niles to get Diviner as a reclass option for Nina. By default Izana comes with two Hoshido unique rallies in Rally Magic and Rally Luck, the former can be very useful for securing kills and the latter can make combat a little safer. Lategame Conquest favours raising the stats of a few core units to very high levels to dipose of troublesome groups of enemies, so the more rallies you can stack the better. His class also learns Tomefaire at level 15, and while it doesn't increase magic (and therefore staff effectiveness) in Fates like it does in Awakening, it's still useful as an offensive tool. Izana himself isn't much of a fighter but Corrin or Kana could steal the skill for themselves. Izana's base speed might be a little low but his magic and skill are very high, so he will be able to deal good damage right off the bat if he needs to, personal skill aside.

The second half of Izana's unique utility is his personal skill - it might sound detrimental, but damage reduction skills can get very silly very fast when stacked with other skills and rallies, meals, tonics, etc. The chokepointy nature of Conquest's lategame maps make it fairly easy to pile as many units like Izana and Elise behind a frontliner as possible to raise their bulk to nigh-invulnerable levels. The damage reduction for your own units can hurt, but even that might be useful in case where you need to avoid a kill to either feed EXP to someone else or prevent your own attackers from being overwhelmed. It does also hurt Izana's own damage output and he's a bit too fragile to want to participate in combat himself all that much for the boost to his own bulk to matter, but Izana's a lover not a fighter and he doesn't care much either way.

He's also got a few interesting reclasses, but there's not much reason to use them. If you want more Izana he can reclass into Mechanist for Replicate, but good luck getting him levels as one. Theoretically he could also go Master of Arms for Life and Death, which combined with Tomefaire and a Lightning tome could be used for some insane player phase damage, but that's a bit too much setup for something your other units could probably do better anyway.

So basically he's a rallybot and a spare staff and tome user if you need either of those things. Bring him along if you need the rallies or if your healers have disappointed you, otherwise it's safe to bench him or not recruit him at all.

My Rating: Not even the second best hair in the game

Flora
Maid (HS: Dark Mage, Mercenary)
A+ Support Partners: Felicia (Mercenary)
Personal Skill: Icy Blood (If user sustains damage in combat from more than 1 tile away and unit's HP is not at full, opponent receives same amount of damage in return and skill & speed -3) [I'm actually a bit confused by this, the in-game description doesn't mention the HP at full thing and Serenes Forest doesn't mention the one or more tiles away thing. I assume both must be true though?]
Growths (With Default Class):
HP: 35% (35)
STR: 40% (50)
MAG: 20% (30)
SKL: 45% (60)
SPD: 30% (45)
LCK: 35% (45)
DEF: 30% (35)
RES: 30% (40)

Flora! The other maid. I called her a candidate for worst unit in all of Conquest and I stand by it. Is she terrible, though? Ehh. Fates's mechanics make it hard for a unit to be completely useless, and you can always do something if you can hold a staff.

Flora shows up at Chapter 19 at the earliest, but I personally wouldn't grab her until the chapter after. She's a Maid without the weird level cap that the other two servants have, which is already a point against her. Statwise she's more similar to Jakob than her sister - she's got high skill and weirdly high physical stats, but her magic is very underwhelming. She's also quite slow.

She can use staves and has a high starting staff rank, and her strength and resistance are both high enough to make her a good answer to mages. That's about it! The other servants join earlier and learn cool skills earlier, and even if their stats aren't all that good I think you could argue they're better distributed than Flora's too. Icy Blood is a interesting skill for sure, but it's not particularly good and has a few too many conditions required for it to activate. One thing to note is that it does not work like Poison Strike - the damage it does to enemies happens during combat and can kill them, which can potentially lead to some silly strategies that allow her to kill Stoneborn from miles away with a counterattack.

One oool thing about Flora is that her default class set gives her 4 breaker skills by default - Tome from Maid, Bow from Sorcerer, Shuriken from Bow Knight, and Axe from Hero. She can even marry Corrin to grab a fifth... Felicia can do the same (and will learn them much earlier), but she has to A+ support Flora in order to grab Bowbreaker.

That's all I have to say about her. Use her if you need a staffbot and didn't train either of your servants (or reclassed them) I guess. They really should have just made her a regular recruit.

My Rating: Has a way more romantic support chain with F!Corrin than she does with M!Corrin

Thankee kindly.
I think I've used Flora all of once (Sakura's map). She's not the worst staffbot ever, but... eh. The problem is that most of the ranged units from that point onwards are either ninjas (bad for Flora's poor Def), Onis (bad for Flora's iffy base Str), or Kinshis (doubly bad for Flora). So she's mostly relegated to sticking near the back, which isn't always possible (hi Hinoka's map). Like, I think Shura ends up as a better staffer with just a little effort.
