I haven't been active on the forum in years, and never really was because it just moved too fast for me and I never found my footing here (I was more a fan of the forum's content as filtered through the site), so I guess I missed Lowtax's downfall and further descent, which was probably for the best. As an old SA fan this all just makes me sad. It's also surreal seeing Fragmaster break the news and look and sound normal/somber, but I'm glad to see him looking well given the circumstances. This is strangely significant to me and hits harder than just someone that brought me amusement passing, or a celebrity death, because I never thought of Lowtax as a celebrity but someone I "knew" from the Internet, which is obviously every celebrity online now. So, in addition to making me laugh at and with the Internet, he was ahead of his time and a cultural pioneer in ways he'll probably never really get full credit for outside certain online circles. Plus, people obviously don't want to celebrate someone that was also found to be as abusive in real life as he could be mean-spirited online. But, he definitely helped define and shape the Internet and our perspective of it for better or worse, and ultimately he was right, "The Internet makes you stupid." Anyway, I'm sorry Lowtax ultimately wasn't above that axiom and turned out this way, that he didn't exorcise his demons but was instead consumed by them. I wish it could have been a happier ending for him and especially the loved ones he hurt. Instead, condolences and sympathy to them, his family, friends, fans, and children. May he now rest in peace and you all have it in your lives. Thanks to Rich and all of you for somethingawful.com.

I joined back during the Sam Jain ad revenue controversy. I think that was 1999-2000. Over the last 21 years, this place has been there for me at the best and worst of times in my life. I thankfully never posted about the rough times here, but just logging in and reading some of the funny, stupid or insightful poo poo would put always put a smile on my face. The thing is Lowtax did not do that. It was everyone who posted here. Sure he built the place and did a few funny things, but when it comes down to it everything SA is famous for was created by the members. Lowtax just got to claim credit for it since it was his site. It's insane to think about the creative talent that has passed through here over the years. My only interaction with Lowtax was in a thread he made where everyone was just pathetically kissing his rear end for attention back in 01. I just posted something along the lines of about how creepy it was and he probably found it creepy too. He banned me about 2 mins later. Kind of sums him up for me.

It’s 2021 and I’m lurking on SA again. This is weird. Good to see this place is chugging along in spite of lowtax. It was funny as poo poo back in the day, even if I felt pretty conflicted about it. Really wishing the best for his kids and exes. Nobody should have to go through this poo poo.

ti really feel for all of his kids. i had a parent who had substance abuse issues and it just turned them into a very spiteful person who could only see the world in terms of some grand, conspiratorial game to hurt whoever their current enemy was. every day you hope that maybe they'll turn it around, and the longer it goes on your hopes and expectations diminish. after years of it you know it's probably not going to happen, but you still get surprised by how seeing that little tiny spark of hope get extinguished by their death hurts i ended up getting some tablet they used to use and i got to read some weird emails from them talking about their eternal grudges and conspiratorial thinking. it was depressing to see what the inner workings of their mind were like when they were at their lowest state. it just really hurt to see the pain they were in even if they didn't realize that id be reading those messages years later. futa snake, i dont even know why you bothered to come in here and post chat logs in a place where its entirely possible his children will or have already read them. what exactly were you hoping to accomplish? if id had these conversations with richard where he does nothing but bitch about how their mothers brainwashed them i would take that to the grave. were we supposed to think you're a good person for sharing these? were you supposed to look good?
