Indicator is one of the best euro labels. Arrow obviously. Second sight, eureka, 88 films do great work too.

Eureka is great and if they have anything you want order direct from their site and they ship free to the US.

All my region B stuff is from 88 Films, Arrow, Eureka, Second Run, Second Sight, and Third Window

Which player did you get? I bought Crimewave and Force 10 From Navarone from the Indicator sale and didn’t think to check the region until I’d already ordered. I’ve also wanted a Blu-ray of the Hammer Hound of the Baskervilles for years and the Twilight Time Blu-ray tends to go for about as much as a player so I might as well just get the region locked Arrow one.

Right now I want to find stuff that either went OOP in region 1 or otherwise hasn't been released here.

You can find most of Shout’s OOP stuff right on their website. Most of it seems to be MGM titles, including a lot of Cannon Films titles

Here's most of my region B collection. Some have since gotten a region A release, but I think most have not or the import is just better.

Yes. It’s the closest thing to Gremlins that’s been made in recent years.

It's a blast, just to note the shout release is an unreleased version, not sure how much will be different though. I don't think the original release is included but I could be mistaken

Yea I'm not too worried about it but it would definitely be a shame if the new version somehow makes the movie not quite as good, because this is probably the only 4k release it'll get.

Michael Dougherty is the one who did the new cut and is overseeing the whole package so I’m sure it’ll be good.

I plan to just keep my regular UHD player and get a less expensive region free Blu-ray player.

Something cool I didn’t know is that before home video really took off you could buy a heavily abridged Super 8 version of a movie for watching at home. The Indicator release of Charles Bronson’s Breakout includes the Super 8 version which is about 18 minutes long, cut down from 96 minutes.

Spielberg may have stolen the propeller death from Raiders from a this movie. But this one’s maybe better.

Yeah a long time back I bought an old issue of Famous Monsters that had ads in the back for all sorts of things but specifically a lot of Super 8 versions of various horror/scifi films. You could even get the full movie of like Cabinet of Dr. Caligari for some high price.

It's a regular blu-ray player and I didn't get anything fancy. I just got the cheapest option from 220 electronics because I'm sick of not being able to get certain movies. Plus when the Martin blu-ray finally comes out that's a must for me and I don't want to miss out.

In the times before VHS, people did have film projectors. It wouldn't have been out of place to watch stag films with them, much like in Friday the 13th part 4.

Pretty much. It’s the ultimate sin for that kind of movie to me. I shouldn’t be in a position to get disengaged. It’s why I like the M:I and F&F series. They keep things moving while giving you tons of ridiculous set pieces. I don’t need shots of James brooding for a minute, gimme punches and cars and explosions and quippy puns in an English accent.

The plots for Quantum and Spectre are also very convoluted, and that's obviously saying a lot with the Bond series. Casino Royale and Skyfall are very straightforward by comparison so you're never like "wait, what is Bond trying to accomplish here exactly?"

I agree with most of the thread's recent Bond opinions but I agree with this one the most:

edogawa rando posted:

The odd-numbered Craigs that I've seen so far are great. Quantum of Solace feels like a couple of script drafts away from being the film it could have been (I think there was a writer's strike while this film was in production), and Spectre can get hosed.
Quantum's got a lot of problems but I still enjoy it, and yes, you're right about the writers strike - the first draft was finished immediately before the strike started, and after that point no writers were allowed to touch the script, so you had Craig and the director trying to tweak it by themselves.

Spectre was just a plodding, tedious, overcomplicated drag that completely flubbed the big reveals/twists that the Craig-Bond movies had been (very unevenly and often incoherently) building towards.

Casimir Radon

MGM also went bankrupt in 2010 which didn’t help Craig’s series. There was at some point a concern that he might end up only doing two movies just like Dalton.

The problem with Quantum is that it picks up right after Casino Royale, so you're all primed to see Bond go after Vesper's killers and then all the sudden it's like "oh wait, this guy who is part of the group that killed Vesper has some vague connection to a random corrupt businessman who Bond will now investigate for the rest of the movie for vague reasons", and it all feels very disconnected and arbitrary.

Yeah, there's a car chase scene in there that makes no visual sense at all if you are at all canny about keeping track of where things are in physical space, which they try to hide with tons of jump cuts.

There's a story about that chase related to the writer's strike that I can't fully remember the details to. I think it was something like they'd shot the scene, but then because of the writer's strike too much time went by and they lost the sponsorship deal with one of the particular brands of car that were featured in the chase so they then had to recut the scene so that car didn't appear, which of course was very awkward and required a lot more cuts then the scene otherwise would've had? Am I completely making that up?

The Hitchcock 4K set is under $37 at Amazon. I’m tempted at that price despite purchasing the Psycho standalone. I don’t even really like Vertigo and I’ve never seen Rear Window or The Birds! But drat, that value!
