allegedly this is the same material in which Alexander The Great was interred, the casket of of Alexander has been lost to history, as well as his remains, but some reports describe it as being hewn from transparent rock crystal. I don't recall which debauched Julio-Claudian Emperor allegedly looted his tomb and defiled the remains to recover the armor his remains were interred in, but that's another (maybe apocryphal) story around the myth of Alexander

Snowglobe of Doom posted:Some of the Polynesian ships were 30m long and manned by up to 200 people, they were significantly larger than the ships Magellan and Drake used to circumnavigate the world. My understanding is that the 'voyaging' conoes were about half that length. Larger 'war' canoes weren't capable of operating in the open ocean. These things were lashed together. The lashings weren't capable of handling the stress. From what I've read, the war canoes carried up to 100 people. Neither of these were comparable to the 85 ton Carracks used by Magellan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_(ship)

Strictly as an art project, I'm not expecting any serious demand. Don't think that would be possible. From what I've seen watching folks do it a lot of the skill lies in things like the sound the impact makes and what that tells you about the crystaline structure of the piece in hand, and being able to respond on the fly to how the flakes actually come off. You could maybe get away with using perfectly identical slabs of glass as a starting material. If you just want a robot to smash rocks against each other you could probably interest these builders of insane and bad rear end devices - https://www.srl.org/ (Boston Dynamics? Pffft)

Give the flintbot a bigass x-ray source so it can continuously inspect the interior of the stone.

I admit to glancing casually at the thread title to see whether it was coming off the ceiling. Edit: wait, is that a hole in the ceiling?

It might be a hole cut so they can access a joist to attach it to.

There's no way anyone anchors a mount to a drywall ceiling for that type of badassery, so it's probably on a joist 6" or less above the drywall
