And the mercy seat is awaiting,
And I think my head is burning,
And in a way I'm yearning,
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth,
And anyway I told the truth,
And I'm not afraid to die.

This about summarises a lot of peoples memories of when they think of Great Orton Matches.

gently caress, this quote from that reddit post's comments is perfect.

quote:

Randy Orton is the Toyota Corolla of wrestlers.

He's simple, effective and not full of too many surprises, but when you need to get from point A to point B with a great distance in between you'll never feel he's a risky choice for the spot.

You won't dazzle anyone either but you'll certainly get there in one piece.

That just makes it that Randy is the Greatest of the "He's a Good Hand" tier.

Orton had his best match with Foley and its been downhill since then. I can see why wrestlers call him the best wrestler ever because the man literally does gently caress all and still gets a massive reaction.

Mostly I wanted to make fun of WWE memoryholing the curbstomp for a bit, such that replays of that match cut away from Seth doing it, so he just magically appeared in the air to get RKOed.

In an alternate universe Orton leverages his look, size, general competence and cool finisher into a mostly-unheralded journeyman career until he hits a point when non-Fedpilled wrestling nerds have the same kind of reaction to him as modern day Frankie Kazarian, saying stuff like “You know Orton can lowkey go, he just knows what he’s doing out there”

He’s boring in both universes though

quote:

Unpopular opinion: The way Tony Khan is booking CM Punk reminds me of the way Eric Bischoff booked Bret Hart in WCW only worse

It’s true! It’s drat true. Similarity is both were the biggest/hottest stars in the business when they arrived in the new companies due to disgruntlement from WWE. They both went from being the hottest stars in the business to being cooled off after a few months in. Both were kept out of the title picture and wasted in mid card. Except in WCW we still got plenty of Bret Hart dream matches: Sting, Booker T, Benoit, Makenko, Saturn, Steiner etc. in addition to revisiting memorable WWF rivalries against Flair, Luger and Nash. So far we have none of that in AEW for Punk. Hopefully Punk won’t end up with a career ending injury like Bret. But this is my biggest pet peeve with AEW atm. :/

Edit ….to the guy who said “it’s been 3 months they are clearly building him up”. You don’t build up cm punk when he’s a bigger star than anyone in your company.

For person who says he’s been out too long… Rock was gone for 7 years too and came back against Cena in the main event of Wrestlemania.

Punk is 43 now and Bret was 40 in 97. Not that much of an age difference.

Hobbs and Garcia are nobodies and never will be stars. Allin is trash. MJF is the only guy worth Punks time. They better do something good with him every feud from now on.

Bret Hart's first big match in WCW was as a referee

IGgy IGsen
Apr 11, 2013

"If I lose I will set myself on fire."
CM Punk coming to AEW beloved and having good matches after a bit of build is the same as Bret Hart coming to WCW and looking like a goof almost immediately by restarting the main event as a special referee or something cause no one gets screwed on his watch even though there was no visible screwjob going on (whether the ref hosed up or Hogan told him to count slow, brother, I don't know, but that doesn't matter.)

These two are the same thing. Sorry, I didn't read past the first line of that take, so I don't know if the poster explains the deep nuance behind their rock-solid reasoning.

If anything I'd compare CM Punk debuting in AEW to Sting debuting in AEW because they overdo the same "Sting will speak tonight" crap which got old after a while, only it took longer for Punk. But they stopped doing that already so what is there even to complain about?

Saying Hobbs and Garcia won't ever be stars and Punk shouldn't interact with them is some real self fulfilling prophecy poo poo.

If you look at his post history, at this moment in time, the three most recent posts of his are "Who are the loudest male porn stars?", "Why do people on this site get so upset when you disagree with them?", and "Straight people could make gay porn as long as they were happy".

And that's before we get to the stuff about Ryback being buried and America stealing money from Vietnam by selling hot sauce.

STOP DOING HEROIN
This isn't a response to anything specific but we've seen a ton of takes in this thread about how AEW is signing too many people, they don't have enough spots, bloated roster, etc.

Well they have Mox and Omega out indefinitely right now, but the roster is so deep they can easily plug in super-talented guys to fill those spots and not miss a beat. Similar to how New Japan lost Nakamura/Styles in one day but already had the next wave ready to go. There's no such thing as a "full roster," especially in wrestling where careers are short and one injury or fed signing can completely derail plans. The smart promotions are constantly replenishing their bench and building up guys who can step up when needed.

In other words, AEW knows what they're doing.

I think part of it is also the Bucks and omega are beat to hell and are going to retire sooner than most people expect.
