dialhforhero posted:My dudes, There were a couple little fiddly bits with getting insurance for the car before it arrived, and my car got delayed/damaged in transit but they fixed it on their dime. I also found a scratch that was not disclosed and they fixed it on their dime. The delivery was very pleasant, flat bed pulls up friendly dude gets the car, lets me take it around, has me sign the paperwork and takes my car for trade. The initial purchase was like 20 minutes of filling out forms online. Overall it was the most pleasant car buying experience I ever had and I'm dreading having to go back to a traditional dealer again

dialhforhero posted:My dudes, I bought my Alltrack from carvana this summer. It mostly went smoothly. Delivery was rescheduled one time due to a delay on their end. I would make an appointment to have a PPI done during your return window just in case there are any hidden issues. I rolled the dice and didn't do it but I've heard some stories that make me think that was dumb of me. Don't know how much of the delay in registration of the car was them vs DMV but my 30 day temp tags expired and I had to complain a bit at the local level (through the guy who delivered the car) because the HQ chat/phone number people kept saying it wasn't a big deal and police aren't ticketing for expired plates, even though I kept telling them that I work on base and can't drive to work on expired plates. When I told the delivery guy the problem and implied that I might exercise my right to return the car if it wasn't fixed (which you can do in my state), they hand carried a new temp tag to my house same day. So keep your delivery persons contact info so you have someone local to talk to.

Something about Carvana makes me feel better than buying from a dealer. I have a friend who recommends them too.

So I found a Golf S TDI on Carvana that looked in great shape. Gets delivered on the 1st and I am going to take it to the shop to get inspected. I’ll post results. No sunroof.

We just inherited this tdi from my mother in law. I was going to keep it around as a runner. Is this the sunroof that gives everyone fits?

Yeah, but given it's a Mk6 it would seem you're at least a little safer. I think it was the Mk7s and 7.5s even that are at recall levels if it wasn't for the fact that they are all now very much later model cars by bank loan standards so they will probably be spared a recall since it isn't safety related. I have no evidence for this other than my own findings and 'research' and experience with Mark 7s.

So, my new 2015 Golf S TDI arrived, and it appears like it's brand loving new in and out. Only a few minor cosmetic things that Carvana said they'd cover. Unfortunately, not long after the person dropped the car off, I back the thing into my driveway and guess what? The loving rear license plate lights don't work anymore! They worked and were beautiful LEDs when it came off the truck, but now it's dark. Nothing. Is it supposed to have LEDs? I don't think it is. I am worried they will think it is aftermarket from ME and won't repair it with my warranty. Anyways, I take it to a European car mechanic specialist place near me on Tuesday so we'll see if this is all the hype I wanted. Drives great though. Looks amazing. I'll take pics, soon. One weird thing, though...It apparently has CarPlay? But only if I hooked it up via the cable first and I can ONLY activate it if I have my phone set to 'on' when the car starts. Does this mean someone updated the software to the wrong version? This car definitely isn't SUPPOSED to have CarPlay. Car-Net: yes....CarPlay wasn't standard till 2016. dialhforhero fucked around with this message at 02:41 on Dec 2, 2021 |

Probably. I don't care about CarNet. I care about why my car has CarPlay for some reason. I mean it's cool that now I can basically mirror my Iphone in my car, but now I am curious as to what will happen if I go into my wife's car and hook that cable up (a 2015 SportWagen TDI SEL). It just sucks that I can turn it on accidentally, but not on purpose. I have no button to activate CarPlay.

I know in my 16 GTI android auto only works if I have the right thing installed on my phone and hook it up via cable, granted I really only use it on long drives which are few and far between now.

VW was one of the first manufacturers with CarPlay. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had it ready on earlier models and it was just disabled via coding until Apple gave the OK to launch it.

If it's 2015 build but MY16 then it should have Carplay/AA. My 2015/MY16 Golf TDI has it since day zero. Not sure about Carplay specific as I'm on AA. Works perfectly via cable with me and various Samsung Galaxy's over the years

On the 2016 models it was typically ‘phone’ and if you have a device connected via cable, instead of going to the VW menu for contacts of the Bluetooth device, it just puts you into CarPlay

Ahhh. I will have to try that, thanks. It connects via bluetooth on startup at least. They work today…?!? We will see what the mechanic sees and finds. dialhforhero fucked around with this message at 12:57 on Dec 2, 2021 |

Yes it is. Drove it to work and that torque. It’s addicting. It isn’t a GTI but as far as what I was driving before it might as well be. Tinted windows even!

Enjoy I don't plan on getting rid of mine for many more years yet, though was just informed the water pump is leaking onto the timing belt so that's a pricey exercise coming up but I'm not too far away from a new belt anyway.

Having an SE with the Sportwagen I do kind of wish I had the SE for the regular Golf as well (toasty buns and a free back warmer are nice on cold days) and I do miss having a backup camera, but I didn’t want to risk a sunroof even though it is a sharper looking car. I am just amazed at how loving good it looks. Near perfect body, and interior is too. Just some dirt and grime/hair in places like the trunk wells or in the crevice between seats and doors. So far, pending my PPI, would recommend Carvana again.

So I'm about 99% sure I have an aftermarket mod to my Infotainment system that added CarPlay. Found out through a little research that to get in and out of CarPlay you just hold the Media button on the center console for about 3 seconds. That's nice. Now I'm trying to get it to have audio for calls when in CarPlay mode...

I can hear the phone ring and it shows the call on the screen but if you hit accept you can’t be heard when speaking. I cannot find any setting that obviously fixes this and apparently many who use CarPlay with other car brands have also had this issue. I noticed there are two bluetooth connections, one for the car originally, the other for the CarPlay system. The car connects to the CarPlay via bluetooth at startup, but in the phone it is only connected to the car. If i then manually connect it to the CarPlay bluetooth so it has two concurrent connections, it works. The problem is, you have to have it connect to both or it won’t work, AND the phone itself won’t connect to two sources automatically. I have an Iphone 12. Also: I noticed there is a wifi connection broadcasted from this third party mod. I think I have to connect to that, too because a phone call is beyond the bluetooth capability?!? Or do I just have yo have it plugged in via the cable for it to work? dialhforhero fucked around with this message at 18:57 on Dec 4, 2021 |

Anyways, one BAD thing I have found that I will address during my PPI is a “clicking” like noise at slow or no speed in the steering wheel when I move it initially in either direction. It can be felt and heard. CV joint? If it is, at least that's a part of the drivetrain so that's covered under the warranty even if I can't get it claimed in the next few days. dialhforhero fucked around with this message at 01:29 on Dec 5, 2021 |

It was pristine This is what it looked like before last night: Edit: working theory based on scuff marks and dents is that they jumped up on at the rear, ran over the roof, and jumped on the bonnet, landing two feet squarely on it. Amazingly none of the glass has cracked, but the roof has some creases in it and the sunroof has been pushed down on the passenger side. No idea who or why. No CCTV coverage yet; maybe the chippy over the road will have caught something so will be asking tomorrow. Realised after moving it back to its garage I had the dashcam in, which may have been triggered in parking mode if the shock was enough, and the (dashcam) battery hadn't drained. Will check that tomorrow too. JamesOff fucked around with this message at 20:56 on Dec 5, 2021 |
