I really enjoy Ballard Street. It has a sense of humor that resonates well with me. There's something about the characters that I always find consistently charming. Weird, but not grating. It strikes me as a feelgood tale of a bunch of weirdos doing their weird thing, harming nobody.

Weird, but not grating. Someone once described them all as "benign boomers" and I think that's a good take on it. They're mostly old, weird people, but they're harmless, and they worry not for the petty things of our real world. It helps that I feel the narration is very rarely judgemental.

Classic Kevin & Kell in: patrons (August 2-8, 2004) First appearance: Commander Kitsune (note: "kitsune" means "fox" in Japanese), who will make sporadic appearances every now and then. And this is a good time as any to explain why that is, and what the patron program is. (No, not Patreon, patron.) See, Bill Holbrook is doing a thing with his strip: anyone can become a patron, by giving him a certain amount of money per month, or per year. Basically the same as Patreon, but done directly through his website. The highes available perk is thus: for the low low price of $40/month (or $500/year), among other thing, you can get your original character featured in the strip, interacting with the main characters; Holbrook will also send you the original art of the strip itself. Bill tends to do this thing in batches. This week, Mr.Saffold the bat, Mark the lawyer... bear? I think, and Commander Kitsune the fox are all patron characters. There's been a few before, but I kinda didn't notice so I didn't call attention to it. Ah well. Modern Kevin & Kell
