You know what, I don't think it's going to work after all. Maybe the format is really too dated and unsalvageable without complete overhaul.

Watching it, I was reminded that for every segment, I could have watched a more informative and entertaining youtube. Be it a record-breaking speedrun with explanations of obscure mechanics and glitches, competitive esports, in-depth video essays on various aspects of gaming, or just random funny people playing games.

It wasn't all bad, I did like the bit with Big Boy Barry and Little Lad Larry, who is his son, it turns out. But the format still felt too restrictive and dated. I think one of the issues is that gaming is a much more varied space today, and games from established franchises tend to be more complex than 20 years ago. I never played new Mario Games, Splatoon or MK11, and while I understand basic mechanics, I definitely couldn't appreciate them in the same way as the games I actually play myself.

I think that's why I liked it so much, because you're right - I could do those things, and I often do... but there's nothing quite like GM and them not taking the bait to go more serious or indepth is the selling point for me. It's all loose, good fun. It might've been better in a 30 minute slot perhaps, but eh.

Personally I hate watching other people play games so it's weird I like it, I'm more interested in the mechanics and watching a crazy dutch guy not press A than someone just playing a regular video game.

Like I know you're not specifically saying spoilers but I still think it's not on to come in and post this when the show isn't even on catch up yet.

Because now I'm 99% sure it's not chigs, which is good but takes some of the wind out of the show for me

Honestly, I agree. Like I'm glad he won over Chigs and Crystalle who both seem rich as gently caress, but I'm still feeling a bit weird about it. Like why did they not care at all about the centrepieces?? I don't understand

They've lost the heart and empathy that was an important aspect of the show and replaced it with only pratting about and badgering. Some pratting about yes, but not all. Noel was all over Giuseppe in this episode and it seemed a step too far.

Matt seemed to run out of empathy, he started with some but now it's gone.

Perhaps them all being in a bubble for the duration of the season was causing some interpersonal/stress issues.

Yea. You need someone like Sandi. At least Matt was looking at the people while he was talking to them this time, normally he looks at the camera.
I like both of them separately but their side bits are loving embarrassing. The sketches at the start I don't care about, but the side bits feel so weird and forced.

To be fair, you have to be rich as gently caress to be on Bake off considering that a) you have to supply all your own ingredients and other equipment and b) you are literally living at that hotel in the bubble for two months. I know that my employer wouldn’t let me have potentially two months off to go on a baking show.

Crystalle should have gone home at various other points in the competition. I get the show likes to hype bakers that grow and improve, but she served that lopsided carrot cake and served raw dough in the final. Giuseppe was the best of the 3 overall but he hosed up in 2/3 of the bakes in the final and his signature look didn't wow them. I think a strong reason why he won was because they got too cute with how they handled Jurgen and felt they couldn't eliminate 2 of the clearly best and most consistent bakers all season

I once nearly got C4 in hot water by keeping a scene of homer hanging from a tree in the paul rudd therapist ep. I thought it was fine.

We get a lot of complaints from the "i plopped my five year old in front of the tv and she was idly flicking through the channels and suddenly she was visually assaulted by crude animated humour" brigade as well as the "why did you cut this line" types. It's a bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't situation that's not helped by the traditional 6pm timeslot. It's really an early evening show and has gotten more mature as iit's gone on. BBC used to the have the same problem with Buffy and Angel.

I always think of the boxing episode of Babylon 5 being cut from broadcast by C4.
I think they put it on way later at night? But since I was 8 years old that meant I didn't see it until I watched the show on DVD in the early 2000s and went "wait, what's this?"

Actually also the episode of friends about the free porn, C4 broadcast that loads then suddenly one day decided not to.

You HAVE to assume that since they're locked together for 10 weeks they know each other well enough that he can get away with it.
But it doesn't come across that way to us, so I hated it too.

When Casablanca was released in Ireland, it was cut by the censors to the extent that some of the plot made no sense at all. This was in 1945, because it was banned outright when it first came out due to the depiction of the Nazis as the villains which they claimed infringed on our neutrality.

C4 hosed showing the last few eps of Babylon 5.
It was usually on a Sunday, around 5-6pm, before they discovered putting Friends and Everyone Loves Raymond on repeat is cheaper and probably the same amount of eyeballs.
They cut the last few eps, then showed them ranging from 11pm to 2am over random weeks when people complained.
