It helps when you create a full cast of characters, none of whom are two-dimensional throwaways. The characterization of everyone in the show is very well done.

That is part of it for sure, but I think that, combined with a gorgeous and distinctive artstyle and a cast of characters that caters to pretty much every preference on the entire Internet creates the perfect storm.

I worry this show is going to develop a serious shipping fanbase and those always turn toxic when people's OTPs dont happen.

Are the blue crystals/gemstone macguffins something you have to collect or go after in the game?

I mean every game or movie or tv show has toxic fans. And really toxic fans would be right at home in a League of Legends thing anyway :v:

There are really only two ships. Vi & Caitlyn which is clearly a canon thing, and Jayce & Viktor which isn't a canon thing. I think it's only the latter one that's gonna be an issue for some people. But every show has every character shipped with each other, I can't be bothered by toxic people getting upset over ships. I do have a huge issue with the folks who keep saying what a good dad Silco was to Jinx just because he "accepted Jinx for who she was" which is just... woof. I welcome fans upset that Jayce and Viktor aren't smooching over the "Silco was a good dad" folks

I don't think it's shown as much in the show but Ekko always had kind of a crush on Jinx, but admittedly that was when they were kids and she was Powder.

we don't know what those crystals are but it could be the Rune system that do affect gameplay or it could be something else. Who knows.

The best way to think of League of Legends and Wild Rift is that they're, effectively, Runeterran Super Smash Bros. but with even less of an excuse plot than that series. They stick in a lot of champion interactions and drop little tidbits of info via voice lines that're generally of the canon, but everything that otherwise goes on in Summoner's Rift is pure extradiegetic gameplay.

Yeah, some of the fight scenes use moves from the game, some of the weapons / gadgets that characters have are in the game, but other than that there's no connection to gameplay. There's also no friendly fire in the game :getin:

i know very little about LoL's lore but what i do know about one particular character makes me wonder how they'll be portrayed in their inevitable appearance next season

to my understanding, Warwick's whole thing is that he's literally incapable of being reasoned with, because that pump in his back keeps him permanently juiced up on rage. if they keep that characterization then it kind of limits how he can interact with the cast beyond "scream" and "maul," and it's not like vi and jinx are in any mood for diplomacy

I imagine that they're gonna change Warwick's lore a bit with that. I imagine it'll be much more like a normal werewolf thing where he'll be a ferocious wild beast but Vi or whoever's humanity is gonna reach him somehow and get him to remember. I think him not being able to remember barely anything is also part of it, I imagine they'll adjust that as well so that they'll be able to shake him out of it, if only temporarily, so that they can talk for a minute or something.

Warwick specifically only goes into a rage when he smells blood, which shuts off the rational side of his brain and drags out the beast to the forefront. They actually portray this mechanically and aesthetically in the game: when every enemy champion is relatively high on HP, all of his voice lines are fairly normal and comprehensible (if a bit gruff; he is voiced by Scott McNeil :v:), but the instant anyone drops below a threshhold, this happens and all his lines become bloodthirsty, bestial, and desperate.

I mean, he could also just show up as a menace to some characters, not capable of talking to anyone. That would be a nice parallel to how Jinx can't be reached by Vi anymore.

Plotting the second season is probably harder than the first, people will have been waiting for years at that point and there's pretty high expectations on what should happen to certain characters, even ones that haven't appeared yet. There's also a lot of dangling plots, so I hope they don't pull a GRRM and instead actually resolve some things before introducing new problems.

Also, on rewatch, Jayce actually tries to do good the whole time and his main problem is that he's super easily manipulated because he just has such a big heart lol. Viktor on the other hand is a bit of a selfish dick, like come on, the "people who need our help right now" is clearly just himself not wanting to die (fair enough). That story read completely differently on my first watch, I guess I'm just used to the golden boy being evil / selfish.

Also the Vi/Cait/Jinx plot is way more appealing to me the second time around, I guess because I can pay more attention to details.

"Welcome to pound town, Slifer slacker!"

For the discussion of a future character Warwick in League has lines for Jinx and Vi that suggest he recognises them a little. So it probably will end up being a struggle against the memory loss and bestial instincts thing. He’s also somewhat of a vigilante not a random killer, he only hunts killers and chem-barons, or others in The Undercity or Zaun who would themselves be considered monsters.

The actual raddest fight in the show is great because they use all the game moves to lure you in... when Vi & Jayce get their signature in game weapons and gently caress up a bunch of Chemtank berserkers (who are wearing an item from the game that allows tanks to gain movement speed towards enemies and deal damage) , its basically a montage of these 2 champions using their moves from the game. It looks loving sick. Oh gently caress they're killing these guys who are wearing one of the items from the game, they're so cool. Then pow, they kill a fucken kid lol - its definitely designed to gently caress with gamers, because they will be getting sucked in by knowing all the moves & stuff.

Speaking of Warwick, there's no reason to expect he'll be the central focus of the season. Could have a ekko-level contribution where there's a new murderous madman in the undercity ooo for a few episodes then a reveal that it's scary wolf guy with an awesome design then by the end a realization that he's vander gone singed maybe he saves vi or jinx at a climactic point and then runs away from the city, all while some other main plot is going on

I suspect that Singed will get picked up by one of the other Chembarons - maybe Corina, if they're going to introduce her next season - to hunt down and stop Jinx, who answers to no one and who's probably going to keep bringing heat down onto Zaun from Piltover. Warwick's the perfect tool for the job, and it gives a good reason for Vi and Jinx to be in the same room together when he inevitably shows up.

I've seen that too, but I hope not. Already to many identical sexy women in the game. It might be Sevika who has a cool mechanical arm gimmick.

If Mel ends up in the game, I hope it wouldn't be before season 2, because that would give away whether she'll survive the blast. They should leave it open for now.

There's so many little things to catch on a second view. Vi post-timeskip has this habit of rolling her right shoulder whenever she's nervous or in a fight, a habit that makes a lot more sense when you remember that it's the one that got pinned under the warehouse door right before she got hauled off to Stillwater.

The one I noticed is when Jinx kills the Vi look alike on the airship, the leader looks visibly distraught, more so than when his other comrades are killed, as if there was something between them. Ekko seems to have a type.
