I counted 19, good effort! Loved the sign off just being nonsensical. But it's good to know the host has seen Network and totally understood the themes when he trotted out the 'mad as hell' line, and isn't at all another right winger who seems to completely misunderstand every piece of culture they've ever consumed/heard repeated by some other idiot.

Yeah. They didn't tell us how to deal with it, but there was definitely a section on "This will happen if you go too deep, and then you will die. So don't."

No they didn't. You don't get into gas mixes much but it hammers home most things you need to not kill yourself. You can do a open water course from the age of 10 so it's fairly basic stuff though. I'm not sure what would possess someone with just an OW to go diving with someone who isn't significantly more experienced than that. The best way of dealing with potentially lethal problems is: do not under any circumstances go against your training and you won't need to. Ending up at 20 meters because someone found a cool fish isn't the worst but don't go cave/wreck diving etc. Brandfarlig has a new favorite as of 09:10 on Nov 25, 2021 |

That Twin Peaks one is great. quote:According to David Lynch on the 2007 Gold Edition DVD release of Twin Peaks, Lynch was upstairs in the Laura Palmer house, near Silva as he worked, and suddenly realized that Silva might have a place in the show. He asked Silva if he was an actor, and Silva said that he was. Lynch then shot a scene where Silva was crouched at the foot of Laura Palmer's bed, staring at the camera, with no idea of where it would fit into the film. Later, while shooting a scene where Laura's mother is remembering a traumatic event, camera operator Sean Doyle told Lynch they'd have to repeat the scene because a crew member had accidentally been caught in a reflection. Lynch asked who, and Doyle told him it was Silva. Seeing this as a sign, Lynch decided to keep the shot as it was. Thus was born the character of Killer BOB, a dark spirit who haunts Laura.

Mine did Like, it didn't go into detail but it definitely covered "these are the limits of your training, here's a five-minute overview of the technologies and training needed in order to dive outside those limits, without those this is how you'll die; if you want to do dives like that without dying, come back and get that training after you have some dive experience and your AOW". Son of Rodney posted:Back when I learned 130 feet or 40m was concidered safe for sport diving, did that change? (With acclimatization pauses and only for a short time, obvio) The dive tables I learned on when doing basic (~10 years ago) went down to 130'/40m, but at that depth you spend so much time descending, ascending, and on safety stops that you basically have no bottom time; and for basic open water, while you use the same tables, you're only officially cleared to go down to 20m. Advanced open water training uses the whole chart, although you won't necessarily make it down to 40m during the AOW training dives, depending on where you're diving.

When I was a kid, we'd go to the local community pool every summer. I remember jumping off the diving board into the deep end--and I was built real small and twiggy, so it was like throwing a piece of rebar into the water--and I shot down to the very bottom of the pool (maybe 25-30 feet). Even though the chlorinated water burned my eyes, I swam around down there for a few minutes before returning to the surface. And that was 25-30 feet with no diving equipment. I bet I could do 200 feet with dive equipment.
