Yeah, I gave away my car and bike commuted for about 17 years, thinking it was inevitable everybody would be doing the same in order to save life on earth and their own lives. And as my hippie-ish buddy living in his mom's basement said, "Funny, your way would have worked," and it turned out I was just a loser with no car.

I mean, OP from this morning is probably correct that Atmospheric Rivers won't be the cause of our demise in the west. Just as likely loving absurdly incorrect that the mountain of poo poo we've created isn't rapidly coming back to bite us in the rear end, tho. HTH, behold the Great Leveler.

We know Microplastics weakening the adhesive abilities of muscles.
We know they are impairing the cognitive ability of hermit crabs
We know they are causing aneurysms and reproductive changes in fish via disruption to the endocrine & hormone systems.
We know they can alter the shape of human lung cells.

Now we know they are going straight to the brain less than a week after ingestion and inducing immediate broad-spectrum neurotoxic effects.

We ingest an estimated 52,000 microplastic particles a year, depending on lifestyle.

Kick back, pop on that tune, and take a moment to consider the ramifications of this.

nano particles you breath can enter your brain via your olfactory nerve. 50% attach and travel up into your brain in about 4 days. with some particulates, up to 30% of of what you breathed would attach to your olfactory nerve.

60% of nano particle you breath that enter your lungs will pass into your bloodstream in 2 days.

nanoparticulates in general are poorly studied, vastly underestimated in terms of human health.

so many industries create nanoparticulates that are basically unknown to science but logically exist. regulators don’t care about particulates smaller than .3 microns. even though we know that particles smaller than that are far worse for human health. once you’re in that range where particles can pass through your skin, hitch rides on nerves, accumulate in your eyes , enter your blood stream from your lungs. it’s pretty hosed up.

Have you seen the apparatus that extracts crude petroleum? It looks like a big black bird whose sharp-pointed head rises and falls heavily day and night without stopping for a second: it is the only vulture that doesn’t eat poo poo. What do we do when the characteristic sound of the sipper tells us there isn’t any more oil? The grotesque overture is already beginning to be heard over Lake Maracaibo, where fabulous communities grew up overnight, with movies, supermarkets, dance halls, a profusion of whorehouses and gambling dens—where money had no value. I recently made a trip through there and felt claws in my stomach. The smell of death and decay overpowers the smell of oil. The towns are semi-deserted, wormeaten, ulcerated, the streets deep in mud, the stores dilapidated. One of the companies’ old divers goes down every day with a saw to cut lengths of abandoned pipeline which he sells as old iron. People are beginning to talk about the “companies” as if conjuring up a golden fable. They live like acrobats on a tightrope of myths about the old days, when fortunes were squandered on a turn of the dice or a week-long drinking orgy. Meanwhile, the pumps continue bobbing up and down and the rain of dollars falls on Miraflores, the government palace, to be turned into superhighways and other cement monsters. Seventy percent of the country lives a totally marginal existence. In the cities an unconcerned, well-paid middle class stuffs itself with useless objects and makes a strident cult of imbecility and bad taste.

it should be ok in the long run, they're expecting a good snow year again this year because of the la nina again. you can see some boots on the ground snowpack observations from the avalanche forecasters: https://nwac.us/ there's not much below 5k feet right now but that's pretty typical for november.

Their take is that the ocean warming "before climate change" is proof that climate change isn't happening?

Not that a natural millennia long changing of global water temperatures is a normal natural process we are turbo charging and adding onto or making worse

"Ocean get heat before heat make? Why so, fool?"
