The Fountainhead is a powerful cautionary tale for project managers about the dangers of trying to work with petty arseholes who think they're better than the rest of the team.

Mentioned earlier, but Player of Games protagonist is just guy who does that for boardgames. They just find a wildly implausible scenario where they need a guy with that exact skillset to do space shenanigans in the magellanic cloud. Come to think of it, 17776 is pretty good for a meditation on immortal humans and games, and is excellent.

Of course they are mostly young men. There's a generation of boomers who won't even walk to the shop complaining that their foreign counterparts aren't clambering into lorries or sitting in a freezing cold dinghy for hours. Young men are more likely to survive the physically demanding journey with limited food and then be able to find cash-in-hand manual labouring work because they can't be legally employed when they get here. There is a reason that hand car washes sprang up everywhere over the last few years.

(tbf it’s a local election so it’s probably because of something entirely random about trees or bins or bike lanes)

The vote difference was all of 8 votes, not sure how much to read into it. They somehow both ran on "the other party will close your green spaces" and, uh, "no more stink": https://twitter.com/NUL_Labour/status/1463442034635808772 https://twitter.com/AaronBell4NUL/status/1462013466563289090 Huckfield appears to have previously contested local elections on a platform of "vote for tories and the tories will give us more money" which is pretty lovely.
