really hoping that the local club is going to be able to put on a snow rallycross so i can get out there with mine. we had a threat of snow at rally of the tall pines this year but it ended up thawing and giving us mostly dry ground all day and night

So because this happened: (dumbo in a toyota verso decided to reverso into my parked car) I now have this for a week or so: Lexus NX300h hybrid, auto. I've only driven it back from the rental place so far, and first up I have to say the UI for the infotainment system is literally the worst I have ever used. Car drives okay, I've not actually driven a proper hybrid before so I have no real frame of reference. It's fairly comfy and easy to actually drive.

Winter is nearly here, so the BBS got a proper cleaning and then tucked away for the season. I’ll miss them, but I do love how this car looks on peelers.

To keep this from happening, I decided to start buying winter wheel setups that I wouldn’t mind looking at for 4-5 months out of the year. It worked to a certain degree but I still can’t stop myself from constantly car shopping. This year, I’ve got the XJ too, so I may leave the wagon at home on the worst days.

I feel that, but live in an area where snow doesn't exist, I just get bored of cars it seems. Been on the 2 year cycle for quite some time, buying, trading, etc. I've had my current WRX for 5 years now but a Model S is a very very big temptation

I drove it a bunch more today, it might be the most uninspiring car I've ever driven. Also, when the battery is fully charged you can put it in "EV Mode". I did that at some traffic lights and got 0.2 miles down the road before it beep booped and warned me it was gonna drop out of EV mode. Really useful feature. It's not even that comfortable. It's nearly as stiff as the 4 series, but with 500% more body roll in the bends.

The local Mazda dealership hosed up the paint on my MS3 during or after doing a repair and gave me some pretty high trim CX5 as a loaner. It's got heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel-- fairly nice interior. However, the engine feels gutless, hangs when I'm trying to drive like a dong (sport mode turned on or not), and I cannot get my phone to connect to it to try out the Android Auto interface. I'm on week 2 of them trying to repair the paint. They finally called me and told me the touch up guy couldn't fix it and they were going to take it to a autobody shop.

My mom's Prius has a similar feature, equally as useless. I had to shuffle cars in their driveway once and thought that would be a great use case to not have to crank up the gas engine for 20 seconds. Nope, I got to the end of the driveway and the engine fired up, even though the batteries were full. It has done similar when actually trying to drive it in that mode as well.

A friend of mine was nice enough to lend me his TTRS rotor wheels with all-season tires for the winter so I didn't have to go drop $2k+ on a winter setup. Get car friends like him! Tires are Hankook Ventus S1 noble2, which likely won't work in any actual snow but should suffice for commuting in winter temps vs the BBS' with Conti extreme contact6's

Olympic Mathlete posted:Post more mk2 imo It was my grandfather's car, he bought it new, I got it back in 2005 or so.. Was and is still garage kept, about 10 years ago when I was living in an old apartment a guy from a neighboring unit creamed it while parked. Not only that, but also my motorcycle at the same time, it went like this: His jeep -> my bike -> the supra -> a wall. Queue me thinking I could just get the body panels from the yards around here for 10 years, I finally sent it to the body shop to get the work done properly. Guy quoted me $3400 for the front end/frame work that it needed. I ended up paying a bit more to do a full respray as it needed some stuff fixed in the rear as well, mostly just almost 40 year old fiberglass/paint stuff but no actual damage. Here it was bone stock, shortly after I got it and spending a good long while detailing it: Here it is in bad shape the day the squishing occurred in the parking lot: And here's just a couple months ago fresh out of the body shop: For the meaty rear lovers: It's stock engine wise, but it's got basically every suspension bit that T3 makes equipped, coils, tophats, tension rods, etc.. Slow and heavy with the old 5MGE but feels great to drive My main issue with it currently is that I cannot get it to pass CA smog so it still just sits, under a cover, getting started and driven (illegally) every now and again to keep things fresh. I've cleaned everything, replaced everything (minus the cat at this point), ran a bunch of different "guaranteed to pass" or "emissions system cleaner" through it and continually failed. It seems like the cat needs to be replaced, but unlike the last time I replaced it which ran me a few hundred bucks, CA now has executive order number cats that are specific to models and year ranges that make them compliant, so I'm probably looking at another $1-1.25k to get that done. Gone are the days where I can buy a cat and get it welded in somewhere, it all has to go through an approved smog shop and it's a mega pain in my rear end.

My dad had an '82 Performance in Terra Cotta that fueled my budding love of cars when he bought it in '82. I remember going to the Toyota dealer and looking at the '81 Supra, which was so much like our Celica at the time... then the '82 came out with an absolutely out of the box shape. Amazing looking car in its time, and it has aged very well.

Yep, sure is, 83 P-Type! My grandpa was a ham operator and there's an antenna custom job that runs around the inside of the headliner somewhere. I have the ham that was in it when I got it, and playing with that radio is one of my fondest memories of being driven around in this car when I was a kid. Inside the sun visors there's little cards that he printed out with all of his buddies callsigns and phone numbers, those are still there to this day. It was also stolen and recovered in the late 80s as my mother tells it. Looks aside, it's a car with history and a lot of character. He wasn't really a car guy, but wanted something sporty but also frugal-ish I suppose. He was a surgeon in Los Angeles for ever and ever, could have had the Porsche or what have you, but the sensible option was the Toyota. He drove it until the day he could drive no more, it currently has 127k on the clock, 22k of which were put on by me. Took far too long for me to get it fixed, it's always run but never looked as good as it does today.

I had smog problems like that with my Trekker in Colorado, just endless back and forth from the smog station to an approved repair site. Finally, they cut open the cat, and it had been gutted years ago, then put back together to look normal. The late 1970s to early 80s are tricky to deal with in states that rightfully take smog seriously, but it feels like the returns on policing those cars have got to be tiny at this point.

wzm posted:it feels like the returns on policing those cars have got to be tiny at this point Yep, wish they'd put a time limit on stuff like this. The standards my 1st gen RX-7 had to pass in the '80s are laughable by todays standards, ditching the complete joke of emissions controls equipment (thermal reactor + air pump) isn't going to make a difference when every other car on the road today (including my other cars) are heavily equipped with catalytic converters.
