Disappointing Pie

Words cannot describe what a disaster the pie was.
Has anyone ever had a Switch just die? My day 1 launch Switch, won't charge, won't turn on nothing, tried three different chargers, two different docks, for hours at a time and nothing happens anytime I try and boot it... I can't think of anything that would have caused it either. My kid and I were playing Mario Party, I put the Switch into sleep mode for a couple days, we went to play after work yesterday and nothing would connect to the Switch. Undocked it and nothing happened, tried tons of different charging cables / devices and nothing is happening.

Put in on the charger and then just leave it for like 4 hours. I had a similar experience with my OG Switch and assumed it was dead after it didn't react at all to 30 minutes of charging but just leaving it on the charger for hours and then holding the power button for like 20 seconds and it booted just fine.

The Switch port is perfectly fine. The PS4 version will run at 60fps and has higher resolution and more graphical features, but if you go with Switch the difference's are not that stark. The video below is a good overview of the two versions.

Also its not a JRPG its an action muso game with Persona trappings. So things like the social stuff or a open "mementos" world are missing. The plot and gameplay is much more compact and, if you skip the option side missions, you can beat the game in about 40 hours.

With that said, I loved it. The change from a JRPG combat system to musou combat took me some time to get used to (I never played a musou game before) but once I got the hang of it, the game became very easy for me. You can still acquire and fuse Personas, there are still showtimes, the characters and plot are all amazing, and the music is still some of the best in gaming.

One thing to note, if you never played Persona 5 you may be a little lost on why some of the characters are the way they are, and many of the in-game references. Strikers is a sequel to Persona 5 and the game acts like you know everything that happened in that game.

thanks for this, I have uncancelled my purchase, as foretold by amateratsu

tbh I've played P5R earlier this year and it ate up 2 loving months of my time so I'm hoping the sequel won't be as grindy. loving mementos

The nice thing about it is all the upgrades are clear and definitive. Bigger better screen, better speakers, better kickstand, better battery (than a launch model). Whether that's worth it to you depends on your circumstances. But if you decide it's worth it, you'll get exactly what you expected.

It's also surprisingly actually plot-relevant once you get to the finale of the story after a whole lot of allusions about Aiba "adjusting his dose". Though of course didn't need to be there to begin with.

Ending spoilers; It's because Aiba's keeping him relatively-sane with artificial seratonin injections because of his swapped-out serial killer/psychopathic brain, and she can't seem to manage the dosage for poo poo. It's why he loops between serious and "TITTIES!" :byodood: with no middle ground.

Also if you wanna use ethernet for online Switch stuff, the included adapter accounts for a chunk of the increased cost on its own

Anyway, I am pleased to report that Kapp'n in New Horizons appears to have the same lines for both "masculine" and "feminine" players, thus no perving. However, now we can't help but crack jokes to put a darker spin on his innocent lines...

While it's obviously a net positive that he's not making female players feel uncomfortable, I do think they've made him a bit too normal this time round. Man used to sing about his love for big sumo wrestlers and fart mid song and talk about how awesome mothers are and just came across like a bit of a lunatic

This time he's just a nice old man that loves his family. If he was a bit more weird without being creepy that'd be ideal imo. Still has an obsession with cucumbers at least

TBF Rab hitting on Jade specifically would be super awkward, she's Carnelian's daughter and the two were friends, it'd be like hitting on your niece. Also they've been traveling together since she was like 5, he's basically as much her father as Carnelian at this point.

It has to use one of the ASIX AX8817x chips, which are pretty common. I believe the Wii adapter works but isn't gigabit.

I happened to have two compatible gigabit adapters lying around for use with laptops, and now I use one of them with the Genki dock.

There's one subquest in the 2d zone where you are required to pick a bride, and if you pick Jade she says that's weird because she's basically your sister. Lady, you are not XI's sister and have not seen him since you were five and he was literally a newborn baby.

Of course for actual marriage choice in the game I picked Sylvando.

Not really; You can't expect people outside Japan to know at a glance what a Kappa or a Tanuki are. But people know what a Raccoon and a Turtle are, and it's just two more animals among many without it really affecting their character, so no harm done in a localization change.

Wait what? Kapp'n is a turtle (outside of Japan) and not a frog?

But what about Tortimer? Isn't he the AC representation of a turtle or tortoise?

I obviously don't know much about animals in Japanese culture, but in Metal Gear Solid 3, aren't those things that you can find all throughout the game kappas, which are essentially frogs?

I'm so confused.

Kappas aren't really animals. They're demons in folklore. Usually come with a turtle like shell and basically have an indent on the top of their head that acts like a bowl for water. They like cucumbers and drowning people in water.

Yeah kappas are just horrible green water monsters with some froggy traits and some turtle traits. Probably easier to localise him as a turtle due to the big shell on his back

Technically, "kitsune" is just the Japanese word for "fox", so yes. He also exhibits the stereotypical kitsune traits too, but that's pretty normal for fox characters in Japanese fiction that aren't Star Fox.

In a sense yes, though it just means fox. But yeah he's based off the folklore version of the fox in Japan, his name's even a pun on that word in that version. Which is why he and Tom Nook are essentially rivals. And why he has the forgery mechanic, since he's a trickster.

It's just Zelda's name for its version of the creature. Yeah it's basically a multi-tailed fox. Those are the folklore versions with the ones with 9 tails being the most powerful versions.

Youkai is a word that translations of Japanese stuff have had trouble with; Inuyasha infamously used 'Demon', while 'Fey' might be closer but the connotations for that are probably a bit kiddie. Unless you're into the kind of fairy tales that love pointing out how mythical creatures can so very often be both whimsical and brutally deadly. Think like, brownies, selkies, kelpies and red caps.

Zelda is a funny one to bring up there given it shamelessly uses mishmashes of Eastern and Western mythology and fairy tales, what with the Master Sword being Excalibur in the stone and Link being based on Peter Pan.
