On eBay look up the sold price. Not the listed price. I was able to snag my PS4 Pro with 6 games for cheaper than what you listed. I did get it through Craig’s list though.

How easy is selling on eBay? I've heard horror stories of private sellers being scammed, with little recourse because the way eBay is setup favors and protects buyers.

I've never had anything like that happen, but Ebay/paypal takes a size-able chunk of your money, takes way too long to pay out, and it's possible to have to deal with a buyer who's a pain in the rear end. I use it to sell weird high $$$ collectable poo poo that is really hard to sell for a decent price anywhere else, that's really where Ebay shines. Something like a Playstation I'd just unload on Craigslist which is way less of a hassle. Although if they did sell that Spiderman PS4 on CL I'd say ask less than I recommended. Probably knock $50+ off if you actually want to sell it promptly.

I turned my PS4 Pro into a streaming / PS5 remote box in the bedroom but now I'm thinking I should just sell the drat thing. A basic rear end PS4 could do that.

I sold my PS4 Pro for $200 off Facebook Marketplace the day after I got my PS5 and thought I was getting a good deal, even after he ripped me off and only had $180 on him. He told me it was for his son and I’ve had too many bad Christmases of my own when I was poor so I was like “gently caress it, it’s more than the guy at GameStop would give me!” I guess in hindsight I couldn’t have predicted that my 4 year old console would sell for basically what I had paid for it, as I’ve owned a Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Cube, PS2, Xbox 360, and a PS3 and none of them sold for even HALF of what I paid for them (although I just gave my GameCube and PS3 to my brother because he and his wife are huge retro gamers), and karmically I just got a $200 SSD for free, so it all comes out in the wash, but yeah, it’s wild. More kids will be opening up PS4s this year than PS5s.

You can plug in any USB hard drive and play Xbox One/360/OG games from those and just cycle the very few actual Series exclusive games there is on and off an external. The transfer speeds are pretty quick tbh.

I’m jus sayin it takes longer to mount the heat sink and install//format the drive than it does to transfer a full PS5 worth of games to the SSD. If that’s “slow” than the Xbox must wirelessly transfer the games to your SSD before u install it.

It's all part of the story where gaming hardware in general is in higher than usual demand and supply constrained for a variety of reasons. A used Switch holds its value pretty well right now too. Even an Xbone S goes for at least $120 on ebay. People are selling their years-old GPUs for the price they paid to buy it new.

It's exceptional that its price held up after the PS5 launched, and that's a different kind of exception from holding its value when it was the latest available generation of hardware. Part of the reason is PS5 scarcity, but it's really because of the general gaming supply/demand crunch that has pushed people into picking up whatever they can get their hands on. The PS5 didn't sell poorly, it did good launch numbers.
