SidneyIsTheKiller posted:"He'd KILL us if he had the chance." Yeah see that's just straight-up cheating on the same level as using different words, in my opinion. Inflection really matters in English (and a lot of other languages too though not all of them).

Yeppers. In all fairness I do understand that they needed something that said unequivocally "yes, Gene Hackman misinterpreted the conversation" in a sequence where there is absolutely no room for any expository dialogue without just having Hackman talk to himself. And I don't think the idea was "this was how it was actually said" but rather "this was how it was meant." I really can't say I blame them for doing it (though yes it comes off as a cheat regardless and really irritates me).

THat was done so much better in the DS game Fantasy Life, because it was a conversation heard through a door and you only picked out certain keywords that changed the meaning of the sentence - the setup is that the princess is worried about a dragon friend of hers because hes' acting out of character, getting weirdly violent and no one knows why, and the king has sent a bunch of knights. At an inn you overhear the knights and hear the words "Dragon... dangerous... whatever it takes.... kill" but later on you find out that what the full phrase was was "We need to help the dragon. It will be dangerous, but we must do whatever it takes. Even if some of us are killed in the process."

Isn't the whole thing with The Conversation that he's basically reconstructing the convo from different surveillance recordings?

I think he mostly uses filters and stuff to bring the voices out from the background noise on on a single tape. Anyway it doesn't bother me, because by that point he's fully paranoiac and it doesn't really matter what's on the tape anymore. He's already gone.

Aquarium of the Dead: Why would you take the syringe out of its packaging before tossing it several yards to the other person? Just seems unsafe. Besides, we could tell it was an injection from the dialogue before that, you don't need to show it.

The sillier a medieval movie looks the more likely it's historically accurate.

Would You Rather, a movie about a rich person toying with lives of poor people. The villain and his game works really well as a metaphor for capitalist society, poor people fighting each other for scraps from the rich rear end in a top hat's table and so on, but the part that irritated me (irrationaly;) was how vaguely and poorly the rules and challenges were - which might have very well been the point, I don't know. For example, the first one was "Would you rather electrocute yourself, or [another person]", and I thought it was weird that they will be killing characters so early in the movie - but it wasn't literally electrocution, it turns out. Later on, the challenge is to "light a firecracker in you hand", with the firecracker not being a firecracker, but some small explosive. And besides the fact that it wasn't a firecracker, there is a difference between lighting something and holding it when it explodes. And the later on, during the same game, the players have to choose between the known challenge (being held underwater for two minutes) and unknown challenge being revealed from an envelope - one character chooses the envelope, and there's a challenge for being held underwater for four minutes, which is just being killed - and she is! Like I said, this might have very well been the point - any vagueness in the rules you can't take advantage of, the rich person gets to choose what the rules mean etc. But I demand a bit more respect for the wording and rules from my movie villains

That almost certainly is the point, yes. The rich can get away with being vague because questioning the rules means you lose.

Also, when the dipshit son came into the room and started to tell the players how they are trying to ger his family's money no one asked him what was his personal contribution to this money, or if he also won a game to make use of it or anything like that. Yes, it would make very little difference in the grand scheme of thing, but that was a missed opportunity. And the ending was really something;) Oh, and to add to endings being something: Daniel isn't real - a nice movie, I thought it was a good metaphor for mental ilness, even if fantastical. How the voices sometimes seem to "help", but it's still a good idea to remember they are in your head etc. Well, (ending spoilers) it turns out Daniel is real, and there's no mental ilness, just an ancient demon feasting on minds. There was a scene in Westworld where one of the techs was testing a malfunctioning host by having him pour water, and he had a distractingly enormous dick. I always wondered if that was a happy accident or if they actually sent out a casting call for big weiners.

Season 2 sucked because someone on Reddit or somewhere guessed what the gimmick was going to be, so they redid the entire season at the last minute as a garbled in media res clusterfuck. Because the creators were really just that loving petty over someone guessing their masterpiece. Season 3 should have been wild. The robots escaped out into the world and started messing poo poo up. Instead it was just a whole new kind of dumb.

Because thats hilariously dumb and petty, and makes the GoT dudes look mature and well adjusted. I knew S2 was going to be poo poo when the main robot lady walks in to negotiate with the desperados, and they're all posed like the last supper for literally no reason. Just smash random imagery into your show, doesnt matter if it fits. Shogun World owns, but I'm sad we didn't get a Japanese style cover of Paint it Black to go with it.

It was more like reddit predicted the ending of season 1 so they re edited season 2 to be harder to follow, iirc. Other than the editing they also turned Evan Rachel Wood's character into an annoying one-dimensional killing machine.

Yeah, that's what it was. I've started memory holing the entirety of Westworld given how poo poo the second and third seasons were. Still just incredibly petty to deliberately turn an entire season into gibberish because the infinite monkeys of the internet guessed your big reveal.

its just such a shame that all first seasons end like this. fantastic setting, characters, budget, and even if its only "meant" to be one season, they write it like its a cliffhanger. Stories that end are really good! I wish more stories end.

I gave up early in season 3 because being deliberately opaque had priority over telling an interesting story. Even the “previously on” segments are just images with no dialogue. gently caress off, Westworld.
