One bullet. One gun. Six Chambers. These are my friends.
Over the last few weeks I made my way through the Duggan/Posehn Deadpool collection. Now I think I like Deadpool, and I know I like that creative team. Duggan's Marauders and Cable runs surprised me when I caught up on all the X-books a while back, so I'm going to go out of my way to pick up more of his stuff.

Big 2 legend George Perez (Crisis on Infinite Earth's, Infinity Gauntlet) just a announced he has inoperable pancreatic cancer. 6 months to a year is the prognosis. He's returning to social media to fight misinformation, and will be doing a last round of book signings and at least one public appearance so he can meet and hug fans.

It's amazing that you can credit him with co-creating several iconic characters that WEREN'T the ones created in the Golden or Silver Age, as well as redefining two that were. And that he did that all in like a 5 year span.

I hope he can make it through the holidays well enough to be with his family.

Whenever he would draw out his signature splash pages I loved taking the time to see who/what he included in them. JLA/Avengers having him give every member pretty much every incarnation and design blew my loving mind when I was a teen collecting each issue when it came out.

Literally the dude who got me into American comics after I picked up Avengers/JLA and just fell in love with his work. I honestly thought he was older, cancer is a horrible way to go but even moreso at just 67.

Now that you mention it, I did think it was funny that Vibe was only present in a single panel of JLA/Avengers, where he's lying unconscious on the ground.

Who’d think a man named George Perez would be offended by a bad Hispanic stereotype? I think DC has done better since then? I’m not sure how people feel about Vibe since then.

It was always announced and solicited as a one-shot. There was a 2099 event in Nick Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man run that was mostly contained in ASM but featured the following one-shots:

2099 Alpha
Fantastic Four 2099
Conan 2099
Punisher 2099
Ghost Rider 2099
Venom 2099
Doom 2099
Spider-Man 2099
2099 Omega

Devil's Reign reads to me like Zdarsky was reading Civil War and getting irritated by how often it devolved into anticlimactic Hero VS Hero punch-ups instead of tackling the outlaw heroes thing in greater detail

I like it! Miles new costume is still terrible, though, especially when you have his new Spider-Verse costume to contrast it against

I knew how the Spider man beyond issue was going to end but I didn’t expect it to do it so nonchalantly.

I wonder what the behind the scenes for this mini run is, because it’s really weirdly paced

I think Marvel value Cates as the guy who will pick up the poison chalice of taking over a character-defining run and then completely pretending it didn’t happen.

I feel like I like Devil's Reign in theory, but also like...is this not also just Civil War done again for like the fourth...maybe fifth time?

Civil War But Without Pretending There's A Valid "Both Sides" Argument isn't the worst idea for a story, honestly

Devil's Reign #1 admittedly felt pretty derivative of the earlier issues of Civil War, but I'm reasonably confident that the event won't involve writing half of the major Marvel heroes as unambiguous villains before deciding that they're actually the good guys in an ending that was in no way set up by the rest of the story, or ostensibly revolve around a semi-topical premise that in reality barely informs the plot at all past the first issue, so you could do worse than ripping off the parts of Civil War that I don't hate

On the other hand, government enforcers beating and attacking nonviolent civilians in the streets and marching into homes to arrest people doing nothing seemed like a bit of overkill in 2006, but feels almost understated nowadays, in this 2021 issue. :eng99:
