the most important article that no democrat has ever read

they want to appeal to a median voter that doesn't exist, which alienates the actual voters in the bottom left corner who would like to vote for somebody that doesn't suck, and will never win over the horrible fascists in the top middle

it was a jacobin study that you can read here: https://images.jacobinmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/08095656/CWCPReport_CommonsenseSolidarity.pdf

Their "woke moderate" soundbite that performed the worst of all messages was:

quote:

“Our unity is our strength, and our diversity is our power. But for too long, special interests have blocked critical progress in addressing systemic racism, climate change, and access to affordable health care. We need creative leaders who will fight for our values, listen to the experts, and make real change happen.”

Their "woke progressive" soundbite that did the second worst was:

quote:

“The people closest to pain should be the people closest to power. In Washington, the wealthy and the privileged make the rules, but if you’re poor, or an immigrant, or a person of color in America, then you know how hard it is just to survive in this country. We need courageous leaders who will protect the most vulnerable, fight for justice, and make transformative change.”

The "mainstream moderate" that was nearly as unpopular as the woke progressive was:

quote:

“America is better than this. We have to stop demonizing each other based on which party we support, how much money we make, or the color of our skin — it's time to heal. We need common-sense leaders who will stick up for working people, listen to the experts, reach across the aisle, and get things done.”

Their "progressive populist" soundbite that did the best was:

quote:

“This country belongs to all of us, not just the superrich. But for years, politicians in Washington have turned their backs on people who work for a living. We need tough leaders who won't give in to the millionaires and the lobbyists, but will fight for good jobs, good wages, and guaranteed health care for every single American.”

basically, talk about class and how the loving rich are sucking us dry, it turns out people respond well to that. because guess what, if you don't offer them that option, this study says of all the other options the one they like the most is the "republican" soundbite:

quote:

“What makes America great is the freedom of the American people. But today, our freedom is under threat from radical socialists, arrogant liberals, and dangerous foreign influences. We need strong leaders in Washington to protect conservative values and defend the Constitution against those who want to destroy the greatest country in the world.”

it's socialism or fascism, and the democrats have decided they prefer fascism

There's this subset of people for whom everything just works out and it's hard for them to conceive of anything going differently (unless someone just actively chooses to gently caress up). You go to college and get a mid-high 5-figure job that becomes a 6-figure job by your late twenties. That's just What Happens and is a natural next step in life in the same way going from high school to college was. This isn't just rich people, but also people born into upper-middle class families with parents who are professionals of some stripe. It applies to almost everyone they closely interact with (for example, I'm pretty sure I'm literally the only friend or acquaintance of that Russian guy who is from a background below upper-middle class).

If Dems did read that they'd think they need to keep their economic policy as is and just get more social conservative. Wasn't there a third party in Canada that had a redistributive economic policy and rightwing social values making alot of gains in the provinces before the mainstream conservative party absorbed and neutered them?

Edit) the Socreds or Social Credit party was built on the Social Credit distributive philosophy of political economy developed by C. H. Douglas. And had its electoral base in Alberta. Once oil was found the party abandoned its economic policy to become pro-buisness and anti-union. It withered away after that.

No, not really. Back in the 90s Canada's Progressive Conservative Party split in two because half the party was upset that the other half wasn't conservative enough, so they left and founded their own party that rapidly outcompeted the more moderate PC remnants. Ten years later the two parties merged again under the leadership of the further-right splinter party and now the united conservative party is significantly more right-wing than they used to be. And they're still not fascist enough for some people so now there's a new splinter party that's even further to the right.
