Pressing F5 while you're in Notepad inserts the current time and date. Not really sure what to do with that information, but now you know it too.

Something I just found out: that classic silent movie music that you hear whenever a villain is menacing the heroine is called "Dirty Work At The Cross Roads" and was written by a guy called Sam Fonteyn in 1975, about half a century after those films were made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXtuUygD6J4 He wrote hundreds of short pieces for the Boosey & Hawkes Music Library which became super well known and deeply associated with old timey silent films even though he wrote all these tunes in the 1960s and 70s. He was born in 1925 so he wasn't even alive during most of the silent film era https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dnPOkQDYb4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FfugWrQIwQ Snowglobe of Doom has a new favorite as of 14:51 on Dec 14, 2021 |

Notepad++ works for that while also being a massively functional text editor that's not stripped down to the point of uselessness.

notepad++ people are a menace that will spell our doom. Emacs and vim people are forever diametrically opposed and thus remove themselves from public discourse. You'll never hear a recommendation for Emacs or vim except for some close confidantes in case you are a heretical enemy and you need to spend 2 hours explaining why your text editor is better. notepad++ people are unchecked and will never rest until everybody knows "actually notepad is bad, have you heard of notepad++" because they have no fear of someone willing to stand up for notepad.

Trabant posted:Pressing F5 while you're in Notepad inserts the current time and date. That one at least is discoverable through the menus. A neat trick, if it's of any use whatsoever, is that putting ".LOG" at the beginning of a text file will make Notepad auto-append the timestamp to the end when you open it up. Still works today (well, I haven't tested Windows 10). And it's a lot better than the old "feature" that would helpfully delete a file outright if you saved while it was empty (up through 98 or so).

That little loop on the back of your boots. This thing: You can thread your laces through there if they're too long. I've been trying my shoes for 25 years and I've never realized. It keeps my ankle nice and supported too

In the showdown between Prendergast and Foster at the end of Falling Down, Foster pulls a water gun, gets shot, then says "I would have got you." Prendergast is seen wiping his face. He's wiping his face because he had water squirted on him. He really would have been got.
