In the UK, you can pick up Covid home test kits free at any drugstore, thanks to government funding, so people are used to self-testing regularly.

This was actually in the news this past week, when the White House admitted they'd considered sending everyone free test kits but decided it would be too expensive.

(I get tested every week myself, but that's only because my employer requires it and provides the test equipment, staff, etc. If you want to do it yourself, home test kits are usually about $25 for a pack of two, which a lot of people can't afford regularly.)
