Team K🖕ng(Mick Garris and Mike Flanagan)
An offshoot of 🎈All Hail Stephen King🪓.

I was gonna put Flanagan with Kubrick. That would have been funnier. But look, Mike Flanagan and Mick Garris have two big things in common. One is a tendency to make Stephen King adaptions. Another is a real hatred from horror fans. But not me. I love them. Garris isn’t great but he’s a nice guy who loves horror and helps make a lot happen like Masters of Horror. And he’s got a few good movies. Critters 2 is better than the original. And Mike Flanagan is a guy I love. His stuff is a lot less about scaring people or gore or “fun kills” or any of that stuff and more about the old “haunting” idea of loss and grief and human emotions. And I think he does it well. I like him. I like both of them. I like King too. So to all the haters we all say 🖕.

Imagine if this was just like 10 4-8 hour miniseries?

1. Gerald's Game by Mike Flanagan
2. Oculus by Mike Flanagan
3. Ouija: Origin of Evil by Mike Flanagan
4. Before I Wake by Mike Flanagan
5. Absentia by Mike Flanagan

I kind of want to nominate Alfred Hitchcock straight up. He's only got 2 horrors listed on Letterboxd and when we tried to determine how many of his films counted last year we only had 5. But he's got 30 thrillers. And I feel like I've seen so many thrillers that don't strike me as horror at all get nominated that being picky with Hitchcock feels like punishing him for his success. Like we'd let it one director with 1 or 2 films or a director who just needs a couple of thrillers to meet the number. But the Master of Suspense is kept out?

So yeah, nominating Alfred Hitchcock with like 30 films. He still has to be voted on to make the tournament.
