There are themes which pop up every so often on the HSS, where they spend most of the show talking about it. A lot of it can be attributed to current events of the time, as well as the cultural and political disposition of the cast + crew, but some there are some stretches where I have to skip drat near the whole show. One is the constant FCC talk and another I'm rediscovering is 2003 where they talk about the Iraq war all the time and it's insufferable. I understand -- 9/11 had a tremendous effect on the national psyche, mine included, and it was obviously the strongest in NYC, but the show devolved into anti-Arab slurs and extreme blanket racism almost exactly like how the American media treated the Japanese in WWII. Lots of hoo-rah jingoist crap in there, constant railing against any celebrity who was even remotely anti-war, and an intensely cringey bit they put together with soundbites from Howard talking about America being under attack with Metallica's "Don't Tread on Me" played under it. They also played at least a few jingoist country songs from the time and earnestly talked about how good they were, when they sounded almost exactly like C.S. Lewis Jr. from Mr. Show. Just a fair warning for those listening through the old material
