which beloved indie rock band from the 2000s that still regularly gets top or second line billing on a festival poster wouldn't play a crypto party, honestly (tv on the radio, i think in my head, knocking on every wooden surface in my house)

self-indulgent since this is just obscure enough to not really fit in with the rest of the discussion, but ezra furman's day of the dog / perpetual motion people / transangelic exodus it's kind of a weird exercise because there's a difference between "here's 3 great albums in a row" and "here's 3 great albums in a row that all hang together." like, i would say future islands's in evening air, on the water, and singles is an incredible run, but you have to caveat that with singles being such a huge smash compared to the previous two

Sounds like Win Butler might have regretted playing the crypto show on stage. https://www.stereogum.com/2170660/arcade-fire-played-their-first-covid-era-show-at-a-vegas-crypto-party-last-weekend/news/ quote:While introducing “My Body Is A Cage,” Butler tells the crowed, “You know that dream that you have where you’re, like, in Las Vegas and your band’s not there and you’re about to sing, and then you turn around and there’s a bunch of people eating dinner? Yeah, it’s a hosed up dream.”

Venomous posted:rock isn't dead, it's just not cool anymore and may never be cool again i'm good with this because when i was around high school age i listened to nothing but prog rock which was uncool then and is now savagely uncool. It's sort of a moot point if you just like what you like. To add, I specifically think of Reflektor/everything now and late Muse as being these high concept rock albums that have some good songs but are so uninteresting. EN is particular is just the sound of indie rock smashing into a brick wall (Put Your Money On Me is a great song though). Astrochicken fucked around with this message at 16:45 on Dec 14, 2021 |

I was gonna say The Mountain Goats had All Hail West Texas / Tallahassee / The Sunset Tree but then I realised I forgot We Shall All Be Healed was in there too, which is... Fine, but surrounded by some of their best work so maybe doesn't compare so well.

Joanna Newsom. The Milk-Eyed Mender/Ys/Have One On Me is an unbeatable string of albums imo. Divers is really good too, but idk, those first three are my favourite, especially HOOM. Would have also said Teenage Fanclub with Bandwagonesque/Grand Prix/Songs From Northern Britain, but I completely forgot that Thirteen came out between Bandwagonesque and Grand Prix lmao

I think Sufjan has a great string of records. If you're only doing his mainline records (and not including all of his side projects), you could do Michigan, Seven Swans, Illinois, or Seven Swans, Illinois, Age of Adz, or Illinois, Age of Adz, Carrie & Lowell.
