another Turner Classic Movies hub on HBOMax update: I watched Days of Thunder last night. Really solid flick. Drags in the middle because wow, no on-screen couple has had less chemistry than Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. I did not care about their relationship whatsoever - get me back to Robert DuVall and Michael Rooker! Also adds so much context to like half of the jokes in Talladega Nights - I wonder if John C. Riley was cast as Cal Naughton Jr. specifically because of his role in Days of Thunder. If you wanna watch a big dumb action movie that has some really well shot racing scenes, I'm giving it the official: Holds Up.

violence in tv and movies has been bothering me even more than usual since i started having sleep troubles this year but i got lucky with a few shows with good vibes last night with some stuff on pluto tv. a couple episodes of Neo Ultra Q (sort of a twilight zone type show) The Tokyo Protocol about greenhouse gases causing power outages and balloon monsters that attach themselves to buildings to absorb them and Falmagan and Michiru about a plant/trash monster that can repair broken stuff and helps a girl w messed up legs. then i changed channels to one that was playing episodes of Daria and that show really holds up for being 20+ years old with clean animation, jokes about being online (writing an essay for a scholarship from a lovely tech company "wizard" that kept sounding like "blizzard" to me, dad orders too many hotdogs from a bulk meat website because he can't read the computer screen right lol) and nice stuff about caring about your family and interacting with people at school. and wrapped it up with a chill episode of ultraman ace that's kind of a little shop of horrors deal about a cactus monster with lots of legit cactus facts in it.

John Goodman lost a ton of weight though so maybe people who haven't seen him since Roseanne (I'm sure those morons exist) would think he's a success story because he only ate Chicken Fries for six months. lmao remember the Chicken Fries ad spots? i remember they had one series where they clearly had just gotten a hold of "make animals look like they're talking" tech but there was another spot with a bunch of ripped bros wearing chicken-inspired outfits and they were in a band or something. it literally looked like the Always Sunny "Birds of War" wrestling gag.
