This whole thing could’ve been avoided if nightelf just PM’d one of the admins/LP mods about this issue and hashed it out in private. Hell, it’s what I did way back when in regards to interest checking vs test posting. Even if we all know the answer would’ve been “gently caress no,” at least nightelf would’ve gotten their answer and would not have made themself look like a fool. When LP'ing games that work better as hybrid or SSLP games, and which are also text-heavy, it can be nice to have a script dump of some sort so I don't have to screenshot(or worse yet transcribe), every line of descriptive text and dialogue. I know sometimes people seem to just magically produce script dumps even for games I never expected would have them(like Albion, that was a shock AND very helpful), but is there any sort of central database for them or is it just kind of a crapshoot whether anyone's made one and posted it somewhere public? In particular I'm currently looking for ones for Betrayal In Antara and Return to Krondor, and as far as I can tell I haven't been able to find any.

It's a complete crapshoot as far as I'm aware. Some games, like Fractured But Whole, are impossible to find script dumps for because all that comes back are 10,000 gaming news sites reporting the same headline from development. The best source for a lot of game transcripts and descriptions is fandom wikis. Older crpgs in particular are pretty likely to have every word painstakingly transcribed onto one. You might also look into modding tools because someone may have created a tool that can dump the games text.

Lpers these days are too soft For Wizardry 8 it was less bad because it was all voice-acted and most of the voice-acting was, if not excellent, then at least interesting(and some of it was absolutely excellent). For Return to Krondor, likewise, most stuff is going to be voice-acted so I'll just have to get back to posting videos for that. Worst comes to worst I guess I'll have to, ugh, make an effort and do work which are both, just so you know, absolutely lame.

Depending on how the game's dialogue is formatted, you might also be able to expedite transcribing it with OCR software? I looked into this a bit before deciding it wasn't for me (it wouldn't save me any time in my current workflow), so I can't give advice on specific tools or how to use them, but it might be a decent middle ground?

I think some scripts are also just extracted from from the game's data files directly. That's probably not going to be in a format that you can copy/paste into your LP without reformatting and maybe writing a script to clean things up, though.

I only do VLPs so I don't have to do that poo poo. Actually that's a lie, I copypasted tons of item descriptions for souls games to include in my update posts. Boy, am I glad for crappy wikis with tons of spelling errors of which I probably only caught half, and accidentally corrected a few from the game. I also created an SSLP-esque segment for my Celeste LP for which I manually transcribed all the dialogue of that really long sequence. E: actually, that's a lie too, Celeste's entire script for all languages is just an easily editable file in the game folders. I just forgot about that.
