as far as i know cuneiform is similar to chinese: multiple languages use it there's a sound component there's a meaning component there are 100 billion symbols and symbols made of symbols some words require more than one symbol originally the symbols were literally pictures, like almost all letters and writing so for stuff like referring to a god you can sometimes huck a star on it. Literally a glyph that is a star: 𒀭, but i don't know if it always works. Sometimes if you want to say "a star" and you mean a star in the sky you have to do 𒀯𒀭 which is a constellation and a star, or something shining and a star. mul-an. in sumerian you could maybe rig up something like: sha-i = shai? 𒊮𒄿 "heart, inside, interior, middle" "to sprout/to praise/to cry" hu-lu-ud = hulud? 𒄷𒇽𒌓 "to scrape off, grub up" "the one who" "sun/day/heat/fever/summer" So if functional, sort of ok if you squint your brain really hard. I don't know if this works at all to be honest. A different track would be to break down shai hulud linguistically and restructure something from that, or to pull all the ones that have the phonetic equivalence and pick and choose the ones that can form meaningful words that seem to match ok? Idk I don't know if i have the vowels right, or how to link vowels to other vowels, or if you can. I don't know if any of it makes structural sense either. I can't actually read or write and these are probably not real words. 𒍮 𒀉𒃻 i think would be "hash" "angar" or "thigh" "part of a garment" It's more complicated than that though because for example 𒍮𒅗 hashdug means have sex. Zoom in, rotate your head to the left and look at the pictures. "Thigh" could also refer to like the general junk region and one of the versions of it is written a certain way. 𒇇𒊩 means ewe, it's a drawing of a pen with sheep in it, and a naked chick's hips. TRON 2 had zero substance but it was hands-down the most intense audiovisual spectacle I've ever witnessed. Saw it in IMAX 3D, in the theatre's sweet spot. It's the loudest movie ever, and the 3D treatment was shockingly immersive. My legs were shaking when I left the theatre.

I will believe a Rendezvous with Rama movie is coming when the opening credits for it are playing in front of me and not before. That property is almost the definition of “development hell” I hope it does get made though and Villeneuve would be excellent for it!

All solo Clarke stuff average out to this weird mix of 95% incredibly dry stuff talking about big scientific ideas and 5% super horny. Rama was even less horny than most and I can’t even remember any of the characters names or even what they did in the plot. A lot of puzzling over alien machines and such iirc.
