Still miffed the pinochetist sack of poo poo got so many votes, but gently caress it, this is about as big a lead as one could expect. Best part was Parisi eating fifteen metric tons of poo poo, with his votes largely going to Boric despite him going all in for Kast. I hope the alliance with the PC holds, I know there has been a bit of tension between Boric and Jacque. It is going to be interesting to see what happens especially foreign policy wise, Chile can’t fully detach itself (and Boric probably isn’t interested) but I could see a move to open up more Chinese investment. Also, the dominos are starting to fall, onward to Brazil and Colombia.

There's always the hope that attacks by the right push Boric into a more militant position, but that's not something to bet on. For every leader that responds like Chavez there's like five Castillos.

Jose posted:better than the nazi but Jadue had similar positions during the primary, and it's a fairly widespread position among the chilean left - against foreign intervention, but also against dictatorships 'of any stripe'. Boric was also critical of the human rights record in Colombia and Honduras, and of the embargo in Cuba. Hell, if I'm not mistaken, even Perú's Castillo was critical of the Nicaraguan election. Pretty sure the only pro-Venezuela (and pro-DPRK, while we're at it) candidate in Chile was Artés.

Also, big portions of his coalition are part of São Paulo forum. Chile isn’t going to be joining ALBA any time soon but they might not be on the sanction train either.

Yeah, that's a major victory by itself. Kast would have been ride or die for whatever batshit schemes Langley and the fascist movements in Latin America dreamt up.

Taking a trip down memory lane to when Pamela Jiles seemed like the best-positioned card for the left and the reaction to her cringe-inducing taunt of Boric allowed him to collect enough signatures to register his candidacy before the deadline. Slugnoid posted:oh wow, this is rad. does that mean he's in charge of re-writing their pinochet era constitution now or is the presidency separated from all that? It's a separate process which is somewhat likely to result in new elections once it is finished. The lady nominally in charge of the process is Elisa Loncón, who is an indigenous rights activist and herself a Mapuche, the largest indigenous group in Chile. She's representing the democratic socialists. She beat the communist candidate for the presidency of the Constitutional Convention in the first round, and then got support from both the democratic socialists and the communists in the second to win in a landslide. I don't know how much influence the president of the CC actually has on the process, above and beyond the other elected members of the convention. gently caress it I'd press the second button, Kissinger is an immortal lich anyway and that second button implies that it's a reality where neoliberalism in general will end which is most important to me. Tbh I kinda wish that Donald Rumsfeld had hung on for a few more months so he could have seen how Afghanistan turned out.
