cross country races would be 100% better if AI drivers were actually affected by things like water hazards, landing, weather... et cetera

super fart shooter posted:At first I was planning on trying to do this thing without changing the RWD, just as a challenge. But then I was looking around in the upgrade screen, and somehow the AWD conversion made the truck faster, in addition to the usual handling/accel/launch improvements?!? So, literally no downside at all. Sometimes tuning & upgrading is really baffling to me The downside of AWD is weight (and point cost), upside is more grip and acceleration from being able to spread power to all 4 wheels. So take a weak 50 HP car and F/RWD is plenty and going all wheel just adds weight which is bad, but stronger engines (most everything class A+) have too much power for two wheels and lose traction before they can put it all down so going AWD lets you get more power out with better control over the bit of weight it adds.

The steal a flag daily can be done in the playground games weekly, even though the description says flag rush rather than team flag rush.

Drive by phone post here's the video answer on the gearing stuff https://youtu.be/D6qthLir2iI Short version is uhh like try and make first gear longer till it doesn't do much bouncing against rev limiter and shift after a couple bounces

PS long as you're set for manual shifting, p darn sure you can shift up to second during the camera pan even though the UI is hidden, may be a while before I can double check though - if you can't I'm gonna feel dumb that I've been going through the launch control button presses every race start for a while hah.

Oh absolutely, just that it's pretty easy to ruin a car's power delivery by messing with individual gear ratios. I've lost count of how many times I've fiddled with gearing to get it to the point it "feels right" only to find my lap times are considerably slower than they were before I touched it. I'm not an expert tuner by any means, but even many of the guys who write tutorials and release some of fastest tunes just tell people to crank the final drive up or down and beware the rest.

Is there a way to replay the Horizon 5 intro? Everything I've seen online says try a new Xbox account, but I don't see how that works with Gamepass. I know for 4 you could do some combo of clearing the data while offline or something to completely reset your progress, but I'd rather not do that. Anyone know? Thank you!

If Xbox, you can set the console as the home console and any other account on the console can play the gamepass games. https://support.xbox.com/en-CA/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox I've never looked it this, but they explicitly explain how to share gamepass with a friend by making their console your home console, which is surprising.

Will give that a shot. Thank you! Such a silly thing. It was a pain in FH4 as well. Seems like something that would have been so easy to fix.

I guess that makes sense, but usually with high class road cars, I find AWD conversion results in a huge speed loss, which I thought was because the the bigger, more complex AWD drivetrain is less efficient, resulting in power loss. I've never seen a car actually gain speed from AWD conversion. But maybe the difference here is that the truck's relatively low grip offroad tires meant that it wasn't able to use all it's power anyway, so spreading it out over 4 wheels resulted in better power usage, like you said.

But maybe the difference here is that the truck's relatively low grip offroad tires meant that it wasn't able to use all it's power anyway, so spreading it out over 4 wheels resulted in better power usage, like you said. Doing an AWD conversion in this game puts in a 6 speed transmission with a 3.40 final drive and 1.24 6th gear. no matter what car(EVs excluded) and what the stock gearing was. If you do the conversion after upgrading the transmission, it removes the transmission upgrade. That means depending on the red line of the engine, putting AWD in without putting a 7+ speed transmission in, or re-tuning the transmission for speed knocks it down to between 260 and 280kph. The Truck in this case comes stock with a 4.75 final drive and 1.10 top gear. Doing the AWD conversion puts the 6 speed into it, increasing it's top speed by about 20kph without tuning. The truck is a short track stadium truck, not built for high speed in it's original form. Just experimenting with the Mclaren Speed tail, stock it benchmarks at 422.9km/h with a 3.31 final drive and 0.69 top gear. Doing an AWD conversion knocks you back to 267.3 km/h, Re-tuning the now 6-speed back to a 3.31 final drive and 0.69 top gear, it benchmarks at 424.7 km/h The game does not seem to take driveline drag into account. I think the way race starts are handled in FH5 was one of the worst design decisions in the game. "Let's actually start the race 0.3 seconds after we fade the camera into the scene, with no launch countdown, before the player even knows where they are, what cars are directly around them, before they can swap to a preferred gear or set a desired RPM level, or use the launch control that we programmed into the game but literally never mention, etc." It is a profoundly stupid and inexcusable feature in a racing game. Then again this is the company that made co-op open world racing games that sometimes don't even have proper quarter mile straights so... |

Huh. Apparently, in manual/manual with clutch, from a complete stop change from first gear to second back to first, then handbrake and apply throttle It's not something you can do in actual races lol

That launch control thing is so weird, it seems like something that they put in for testing and then forgot to remove. I mean, why the weird sequence of button presses? Why not just have it as a difficulty setting, like ABS or whatever?

I won’t pretend to know why it’s there and undocumented, but it sort of simulates the level of inputs to get launch control mode in some modern cars

This weekly Eliminator challenge for a level 7 car is a pain in the rear end. Sometimes I’m unable to beat anyone else to drops until like the third circle. At least the last one I played I nabbed a Hoonigan Cossie and scored my first win. Also, the team flag rush denials challenge sucks because playground games sucks. If I were to hit my denials quota, could I be that guy and quit out of the event and still have them count?

If you go to the festival strip and line up with someone else the lights will tick and you can do a little informal race.

This one was tricky but far less so than it was in FH4: I guess that, since Eliminator was in at launch, the player pool for it is a bit more casual than it was in the last one.
