to contextualize what i mean about that the south korean left has been demoralized as hell ever since winning a supermajority in the legislature resulted in no meaningful changes and this literally undoes the singular issue that got them the presidency in the first place

not even the liberals have any good way to spin this which is why they didnt give their presidential candidate a heads up

wtf do these people not have access to south korean polling data why the hell did they have the right wing candidate as a twenty point favorite before the news with only a ten point lead now

Is Moon Jae-in really the SK left? I thought he was like Macron or Trudeau. I don't really follow Korean politics but I had recalled Sim Sang-jung as the best mainstream candidate from that election

I think he's a bit more lefty than them but still more 'liberal' than 'left' yea. His biggest stake out at the start was pretty openly saying it was time to try to make bridges with the north and from what I understand that was mainly a bit of a wash so nobody seems all that eager to support him deeper than 'well I'm not conservative...'

sim sangjung is from the south korean equivalent of the green party and has no serious chance

There is a JPPOL thread in d&d and I wouldn't mind them posting in here tbh because Japanese politics is the most boring poo poo on earth and it would be nice to have someone with interest in it talk about it

It's dead and boring and here you get some fun stuff like CaptainACAB saying the Japanese should be genocided and it's only those dastardly pedos who stop it from happening

that's about as close to 'left' as you can get in South Korea, because their 'democratic' government will outright ban any political party that espouses overtly socialist politics
