There's a fun phrase the ancient Historian relates that's essentially, "no matter how diligently you farm it doesn't compare to good weather, similarly, no matter how hard you work it doesn't compare to your boss thinking you're hot"

also, no matter how many not-ant creatures you find that digs for gold in that region, herodotus still claimed that the "ants" would hunt and eat camels

Seems scarily carnivorous to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syNumVb2kUs

If I remember right, the Old Persian for 'marmot' and 'mountain ant' sound very similar to your average confused foreigner and people actually have collected marmot gold dust in the Himalayas for generations. The best thing about Herodotus is he's more sceptical about the existence of the British isles than he is about marmot ants that can outrun specifically male camels.

Let's compromise on 'Herodotus was as right as historians generally are'

1) what’s the best translation of Don Quixote 2) is Don Quixote good to a 21st century American or is it only really good if you like 16th century Spain and think references you need to wiki the context for count as jokes

Man, what the fuck, man?
I just read the Edith Grossman translation of DQ (so I could read along with the Overdue podcast) and had an absolute blast.

It’s basically an incredibly silly romp that almost overstays its welcome.
