Speed control is great for lectures and instructional things online. But what psycho digests dramatic scenes at double speed.

All mankind could come together and pack in, have one great big family meal with all of us together. Singing and dancing and hugging in the streets of every city in the world. Giant Meteor cares not for electoral timelines. It's the decisive leader we need in these trying times.

While I can calculate Giant Meteor's likelihood to deliver on its campaign promises to six significant figures, a lifetime of conditioning tells me to expect a disappointing near miss no matter what

Acceptance) is kinda a tricky ask when the topic is the death and destruction of humanity and all we ever built... and advocate for a 6th step - Meaning. The dinner scene is meaning. We can laugh and mock it, but for those characters, pretty well out of stages 1-5, thats what it is. Find your meaning while the comet hurtles towards us.

When you think about it. Mostly old people are in power these days. And already in USA they released 100 000 tons of lead yearly in the 70's. Thats around half a kilogram of lead per year per person. Lead makes people literally aggressive idiots. And they are in power, lording over the people, destroying the planet. Makes one think! https://arstechnica.com/science/2021/12/how-the-leaded-fuel-was-sold-for-100-years-despite-knowing-health-risks/

No amount of eco-planning would have counteracted the industrial production needed for the soviets to keep up with the west. poo poo was inevitable
|
# ? Dec 31, 2021 23:26 |

At least Stalin had a plan for reforesting and refused to capitulate to industry heads who wanted to run a tree credit scheme where they could leave forests in the far East and chop down everything in the western industrial centres. Most protected ecological regions were undone at his death but a few managed to survive until Putin finally got rid of them a decade ago. It wouldn't have undone all the emissions needed to modernize but who knows the permafrost might not be melting and releasing all that methane.

https://petapixel.com/2021/12/29/before-and-after-photos-reveal-the-destruction-of-ancient-forests/ why don't we make furniture like we used to???!! cuz america and europe used to covered by cool dense forests like that and we chopped it all down for firewood and stupid poo poo we threw away and then to build track housing. and prob whatever we haven't cut down is gunna go up in flames at some point. even just black & white aerial photos from 1930 to today are extremely depressing but it's okay everyone has mythological fantasties that if 'collapse' happens we can just move to the forests and hunt+gather
