One thing I have learned in medicine, and Lee Majors will certainly atest to this, is that it is simultaneously incredibly hard and incredibly easy to kill someone. The body has all kinds of redundant mechanisms to keep you alive and some times they are foiled in seconds by like choking on a peanut.

I've seen enough young healthy people die suddenly and for no apparent reasons to just sit back and marvel at all the 50-70 year old jaundiced homeless alcoholics who survive multi-system auto-ped trauma over the years. Last one was a regular who got tagged by an Audi at like 45mph and had bilateral tib-fibs and a depressed skull fracture. Saw him back out on the street 6mo later, bottle in hand.

My wife was watching the 20-year Harry Potter movies reunion or whatever on HBO Max yesterday and it was cute enough. Also any time JK Rowling was on screen they threw up a big "hey we filmed this interview in 2019 before she had completely shown her rear end, don't worry guys" graphic lol

Have to fly in to O'Hare tomorrow and drive to Oregon west of Chicago for a memorial and it looked like weather should play nicely, but def concerned about all the travel over a 24 hour period. Also hoping the two year COVID free streak doesn't end between the flights, memorial and dinner (are they kidding me) between tomorrow and Tuesday.

Told my wife today I successfully haven't opened my work laptop the entire break and shut my work profile off on my phone the first day of the break (Christmas eve), BUT have still actively lost sleep waking up and thinking about the poo poo I need to get done as soon as I'm back to work on Tuesday. So kind of a push, but still worse off on the work/life balance than I'd like. Today involved some real soul (and job) searching trying to figure out what I want to actually do. There are chemical engineering jobs that can be done 100% remote, but it's computer modeling where all of them need 5+ years of experience doing it. Not sure how to find a job that offers the entry level training to get going on it.
