I went to the Ataturk museum in Izmir, Turkey yesterday. Apart from learning that the devious Greeks and Armenians set fire to their own neighborhood to make Ataturk look bad. I also learned that Ataturk never had biological children, was married for only two years, and had a life-long "companion" that became inconsolable upon Ataturk's death and tried to commit suicide. Is there any actual historical research into Ataturk's sexuality or just Greek trolls?

Usually when guys in history avoid women, and have an extremely close "Platonic" relationship with another man - they are DL for sure. Most of them wouldn't have even pretended otherwise at the time, it's just covered up by revisionist historiography.

The main source in english is this....thing, and its ultimately from Riza Nur, a weirdo panturkist with an ax to grind but who did at one point have the kind of access to Ataturk to know about that kind of behavior. While he was only married for two years, it was the result of a love triangle situation where, supposedly, Ataturk abandoned the woman he was with for a politically useful loveless marriage. I've never heard any rumors of Bozok and him being an item, but even the nonslanderous sources paint Ataturk as a shameless philanderer generally, so it wasn't a James Buchanan situation, but he also liked to fraternize with very young military men in his off time. So the general academic outlook is that there's decent reason to suspect he swung both ways, but nothing solid. When you hear about it it's mostly just ethnonationalists trying to rile up other ethnonationalists by calling their hero a fag. e: Another Turkish exile who didn't have that kind of access also wrote: "He felt at home with the prostitutes and the homosexuals because they were so much worse off than he. The underlying sadism of his nature came out. He never credited people with feelings since he had none himself save the fundamental urge to conquer and see others submit to his will. It's infuriating to think of how much attention is paid to persecuting "genocide deniers" in Xinjiang based on extremely specious evidence. Meanwhile the US is participating in a textbook genocide that meets all the definitions, and nobody cares. There's a minority of US congressmen and senators who give a drat but it hasn't made a single dent.
