Slavvy posted:Not that it matters much, but Stalin was IMO the worse of the two. Hitler was lawful evil and his evil system had clear enemies and rules an average citizen could play by. Stalin's rule devoured (in addition to regular enemies) his own allies, military commanders, artists, and entirely random people. It was a paranoid hell with no rhyme or reason, from which Russia still carries an unseen burden. I'm so pissed off about this because in DnD alignment lawful evil is not "better" than chaotic evil or neutral evil. All world leaders ever would be lawful evil because neutral evil aren't leaders and chaotic evil can barely function in a world and have no real aim to their evil.

You'll find in this case it's because the nazis are a necessary evil required to beat the nazi-communo-nazis, who are worse in many ways, many people saying this. Not everything is America even though it often feels like that. Anywho: F Stop Fitzgerald posted:Stalin was good.

The land theft is complete and total. China has a problem of knockin down people's houses too but apparently there is a way, maybe with some connections, to fight it.

Kassad posted:It would be interesting to know what went wrong in Xi'an (as in, an actual analysis, not "China bad!" op-eds). They had a lot of lockdowns all over the country last year without stories like these surfacing (other than in the first one in Wuhan), what's different this time? this is only the third city of over 10 million to undergo a full lockdown in china. they don't really have an excuse but locking down a huge city is not as common as people assume

the wrong thing is the idea that anything but allowing millions of people to die from a preventable disease is acceptable.

sorry, that was worded backwards, what i meant was: China is currently killing the virus, their "zero Covid" plan is working, and it's completely sick that the rest of the world just wants to kill everyone, and let them die

went to a public hospital here in shenzhen today. i havent been to the doctor in america for over a decade so things might have changed or i might be remembering wrong, but one thing that always strikes me here is how much patient throughput and how efficient the experience is here. the hospital is set up like a factory. like, to get blood drawn a doctor has to order a blood test, then you walk over to the blood testing section of the hospital and at my local hospital they have 13 windows. you scan a little code when you enter, wait for them to call your name and you walk up to the window, sit down, they stick the needle in and you're out of there in like 30 seconds. by the time you walk up they have vials with your info and barcodes already there, someone else comes and takes them away for processing and an hour later i could see all the test results show up in an app on my phone and when i walked back up to the doctor's office he was already looking at my results on his computer screen. at least for routine stuff like that there's really an extra level of efficiency and patient throughput that kinda boggles my mind
