My end of the world plan, assuming I don't get merced by a natural disaster or stochastic violence, was to distill liquor and grow shrooms. But it seems someone else already is planning on doing that so I guess I gotta find a new dystopian hustle. Perhaps I can farm potatoes or follow in the footsteps of my ancestors and ferment some fish. I've been learning to can and pickle things. I don't know how practical that would actually be, but it does give me some sense of control and mastery now, so that's nice.

Ive struggled for a good while to try and understand why I have a will to see this thing through. I'm 42, no kids, one divorce and we don't talk, single. I don't have much debt except for a house and am pretty comfortable. Work from home, just get to garden and hike and raise animals and mouse jiggle. I should just peace out and leave everything to my nephews and wish them luck. I'm still not sure why I just don't go licking door handles or worse. But something has me feeling I should ride it out. Something something very rare and interesting moment in history. That and then f I can get things sturdy enough, maybe it can provide some refuge to good people while and after I'm gone.

Everyone talking about noping out needs to immediately start meditating and reading up on the basic elements of Buddhism. Once you understand the concept of no self and the nature of change it becomes so much easier to deal with this poo poo. I'm serious, it really helped me and can really help you too, no faith or spirituality is needed it is entirely logical and experiential if you want it to be.

For real though this is good.Tao is also real good for this. Also Albert Camus is extremely good for this and was specifically concerned with the question of "why not peace out if lol nothing matters" but not in a dick Nihilism way. He comes to some pretty cool conclusions that are very aligned with the good parts of this thread.

I think this depends on your definition of "really break down", it seems like every year we lose another city or two to fire or texas freezes solid or whatever and those places just don't seem to get rebuilt, or at least not fast enough to outpace the yearly damage. I think we're already at the point where things are really breaking down but it still doesn't feel like "empty the 401k" time yet because of how unpredictable (and for many goons, distant) it all is your best bet is probably to just keep a stockpile of essentials and keep living life normally as best you can for as long as you can, put together bug-out bags, learn some skills that might be useful when poo poo gets wild where you live, try to expand your social network with people you can trust and hopefully when the fires (either literal or metaphorical) come for you you'll be able to escape for a little while
