Canada's equivalent figure is 2.5. Those are both comparable to countries like Lebanon (2.7) or Libya (3.2) and lag way behind evil socialist countries like China (4.3) and Cuba (5.3), or rich capitalist states that haven't finished eviscerating their public services yet, like France (5.9), Austria (7.3), Germany (8.0), or Japan (13.0).

It's almost like when you make a significant amount of the population unable to access healthcare, those who can see a smaller line! And I can't remember the details, but if I'm not mistaken our wait times aren't even that much worse, it's just private companies paying news outlets to constantly tell us that they're so bad here.

it amazes me how bad people are with the cardinal directions. just about the only time i can't tell you which was north is if i just get off a subway in an area i've never been before, and it has a bunch of weird turns on the stairs coming up to the ground, and the sun is directly overhead. it may not be enough to get you exactly where you want, but you can't be too lost if you know north-west-east-south. Most of the places i've lived have had a geographical feature you'll run into if you go to far in the right cardinal direction. i've been hiking alone and lost the trail, and i still don't panic cause it's easy to guess where the path should be and just bushwhack till you get to it.

Okay, well southern Saskatchewan is like that, except every direction looks exactly the same and you can't walk far enough in 15 hours to come across anything.

When I did the travel team census we had to go in pairs to "find" the houses. My partner was unable to read a map or figure out directions and it was shocking she even signed up for this. Half a second of mental math "okay, it's 3pm, the sun is there, so east is this way. If I make a right hand turn at this corner, we'll be going east" and she would be blown away that I could do this. I understand getting lost inside buildings or forests, anywhere there's no sky, but outside? Even overcast it's not that hard to get a slight idea of direction.

I don't really see a pattern to road names and direction where I live. I think what makes something a street or road or avenue here is just the whims of whoever was building the subdivision.
