I don't even want to see what happens if you gain CHIM outside of a pre-coded system.

If you join a group it seems like as long as your group as a whole contributes enough to get a gold and you get a single hit in, you get gold. Join groups it's easy as hell

I've been preferring EW dungeons though just for the sweet tunes and getting to use my fancy new expansion skills.

Yeah, the same thing goes for FATEs. As long as you contribute at all, you get the same credit as the rest of your party.

It's pretty normal from what I've seen in the Southern Front and Zadnor to just invite randos for a drop-in-drop-out party. Do expect to get roped into critical engagements though.

Just how many mistakes have you suffered on the way here?

An uncountable number, to be sure.
That sounds incorrect to me since I usually play in a party with my brother and we have definitely gotten different rewards (gold, silver, bronze) from doing the same FATES. More often than not, actually. Which is one reason we stopped doing FATES; they desync our exp numbers. And also they suck and running fate trains is a form of torture.

Perhaps it shares a fraction of the contribution or something. I'm talking about a small 2-person party.

If you were running them while levelling, the final count of controbution may still scale with level.

There's always that warning of "you are under the recommended level for this fate, your controbution will not be counted as much," right? Might be related.

I've definitely gotten gold for doing next to no damage in Eureka FATEs when I was in a party. Either a single hit, or throwing 100 damage midares at Louhi :v:

who, me?

Part of the reason I needed 4 clears of Chi to get my Level Checker mount is because I kept getting a bronze rating while everyone else in my party would get silver. I think they changed the participation formula or something.

There's also varying minimum participation based on type of fate as well. 6 turn ins for collectathon, party damage done to a NM, number of enemies hit for crowds, etc.

We're always the same level, so that is definitely not an issue.

I literally do not play this game except in a duo.

Skirmish contribution works the same as FATE contribution. The issue is that level scaling on several Bozja skirmishes (including at least three in the third part of Zadnor) has never been fixed, so the enemies may spawn at minimum HP even if they've been stomped by 20+ people the last three times they popped. If it's a multi enemy skirmish, it's easy: have agro on 6 or more targets before they die and you get gold, even if you're solo. It gets weirder with bosses, and much harder when they die in 3 GCDs, but as long as your group has done something like 20+% of the total damage and you're on the agro list you should get credit.

Always group in Bozja though, just because of those low HP skirmishes. People without parties have an icon over their heads. Just spot invite them when you see them. Most of the time they'll accept, and if they don't no biggie, there's other people to invite.

I believe it scales based on the number of people who were nearby when the fate spawned, in zadnor. Which means that depending on the respawn timer, it might spawn while everyone is still running to it and die in 3 seconds, or it might spawn after everyone arrives and actually have an hp bar

I've definitely gotten gold on normal fates (not bozjan) when my wife is doing them and I just do a drive-by single attack on my way to my next hunt.

I think if it's a turn-in one you might need to turn in at least one item though.

If that's how it works then they definitely didn't correctly assume how people would actually approach the content, did they

Turn-ins guarantee gold if you do 7+, and you have to turn in at least one for any credit. I've noticed EW turn-in FATEs are a bit weird in that if you don't have *initial* aggro or a monstrously high percentage of the total damage, you won't get drop from that monster. So if you arrive at one and a war has already like pulled everything, your best bet is just to pick seven things up from the ground while everything is distracted.

Gruckles
Mar 11, 2013

It might be that you don't get shared credit for FATE mobs that your party member tagged but you didn't, and also that the formula only shares some unknown percentage of your party members' contribution.
FATE and hunt credit is based off enmity, which also means that if you have a tank in your party with their stance on it's much easier to get full credit. I've died to S ranks and FATE bosses after only getting 1 hit in, but then still got full rewards because I was partied with tanks. While for mob FATEs I have only gotten bronze or silver after arriving late, even though my party was there the whole time.

Skeb has a machine translator if you're submitting a request not in Japanese, but in my experience it's a rather good one. Pretty much everything I mentioned and pointed out made it into the finished art, so I trust it. It can be a bit daunting since the initial request is the only communication you have with the artist, but I'm in awe how well it turned out.

If you're trying to machine translate something, put it into deepl in English then copy the output and translate it back from Japanese to English. If it comes out the same it's probably ok. If not try to reword it until it does.

If you're worried you can always google translate it into JP and then back into English and see if it's still coherent. General rules of thumb for this stuff is to not get cute, though - be clear and concise. Picture references also help clear up confusion.

I've been told that DeepL is a tad more accurate when it comes to English -> Japanese translations, though both it and Google Translate will probably do the job as long as you keep things simple.

My understanding is that DeepL is better at making things sound natural but sometimes that can actually hide a mistranslation since it doesn't stand out as much.

Skeb actually uses DeepL for its translations and really does seem to work well, but Endorph's right that using simple and concise wording will help make sure it comes across accurately. And always have picture references for a commission. A small imgur album with multiple views and clear lighting will help a lot.

Also I'm a 1983 goon, so I already got my pig Heavensturn last year.

Made a new crafting macro for 100% HQ for specialists, with an eye for people mass grinding out pots/food, as this rotation requires no HQ mats. You need some halfway decent Control melds, but nothing too extravagant. This macro sadly can't avoid the potential for a Poor Byregot's, but it's rare enough - and the previously built Quality is high enough - that you should only get a dud maybe once in a stack of 99.

edit: Fiddled with it some more and it can now guarantee 100% HQ with a Tricks line to avoid a Poor Byregot's, so it's foolproof if you meet the minimum stats.

re: bozja, I feel like I should go back there at some point, but...

I got there late by only finishing SHB after bozja hit, and so every time I tried to get into a party to do anything (necessary, I am Bad At Game) the party would inevitably break up after five or ten minutes as everyone left for Castrum, or the party would truck out into the later zones where I could not go, and I'd go back to base for another ten or twenty minutes until the next instanced encounter to link up with a party and repeat the process all over again.

everyone I tried to explain this to fell all over themselves to explain to me how easy the bozja grind was (most of the time their explanations were predicated on "running castrum," "being in later zones," or "having a party for a few hours," which, see above)

I can't remember the last time I went into bozja, and I've been stuck at rep level seven since dinosaurs roamed the earth

i also have extreme elixir syndrome about the items, especially since I have no idea which of any of them are worth using, but that's probably to be addressed after the whole "maybe get to level ten" thing

Everyone is leveling so it's actually hard to get people to do Castrum, or at least it was a couple weeks ago. Pre EW I used to get frustrated at everything shutting down whenever Castrum came up too.
