Darkwave is more minimal and lo-fi, darker in tone (duh) and usually slower. New wave is like Devo and Blondie and stuff. Shinier, more pop, more danceable.

I have a weird request. I was a pretty big weeb as a kid, and listened to a ton of anime music. I don't watch nearly as much anime anymore, but my music tastes are decidedly weeby still. I was curious if I could find western analogs to some of music tastes so I don't cringe at the idea of someone listening to my Spotify likes. Idk man, if kpop is allowed to have widespread international appeal I don't see why jrock can't fall under the same umbrella, I'd just lean into those tastes personally. Like I see some Ringo Shiina in there, you'd probably like the bulk of her solo discog or her band Tokyo Jihen. Her stuff is specifically more on the jazz fusion side, which is definitely branching out from the usual anime OP/ED theme, but there's nothing wrong with just liking those or using them to look further into the artists themselves! I saw a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar last week and it kind of sucked, to be honest, but I looked up the original soundtrack and that was significantly better. For me, the stand-out track is Everything's Alright, which is just this unbelievably lovely lullaby (at least until fuckin' Judas pierces the heavens with his horrible screeching interruption). Any suggestions for songs like that? Thanks!

I do like that kind of stuff, thanks for the recommendations. But what I'm looking for at the moment is epic dual guitar harmonies doing nearly symphonic solos, double bass drums, even a little keys. Think Amon Amarth, Dethklok, Arch Enemy, Skyfire but without the screaming or growling obscuring the guitars. Two guitars doing completely over the top poo poo in tandem. But not like Yngwie style shredding. Riffs. Is this even a thing or am I on a fool's errand?  who is that on drums

Blotted Science is the closest I can think of to instrumental death metal. Instrumental melodeath specifically doesn't sound like an idea of much interest because it's already a simplified version of the genre.

Thanks y’all. I haven’t heard any Russian Circles in quite a while. Love the Fuckin Champs though. Their collab with Trans Am used to be in regular rotation but I’ve kind of drifted away from math rock. I guess I’m not too surprised that it doesn’t really exist as such. I’ve been listening to Amon Amarth all day and drat are they good. I always have them in the corner of my brain that holds novelty bands, but it’s unwarranted. I guess the thing to do is spend some time with progressive metal, which is always fun anyway.

I like music with lyrics, I like Jazz, I like electro swing, my spotify playlist is basically just 130 of my favorite songs, but I need more stuff to listen to while drawing because it's getting repetetive, and the spotify radio is just having me listen to the same stuff repeatedly with nothing new.

My absolute favorite band Vic Daniels Quartet only made two albums and disbanded ten or fifteen years back. There's so much SOUL in each of those songs I can't believe it. I bought their CD on a tour and cherished it, tragically losing it in a move. They only had a handful of poor quality singles rips online and nothing else. A couple weeks ago I searched for the band members on Facebook and sent a message asking if they had any copies of their albums for sale. To my surprise they responded and instead uploaded their albums in full HD on Youtube. What an awesome bunch. I hear a pretty strong Jethro Tull influence in the song you linked but the vocalist sounds like he belongs in a bluegrass band. I'd call it prog for lack of a better term, but I don't know if you're going to find much else like that.
