i'm writing an article on the kuso games community as part of a larger project, hopefully a book*, on speedrunning and textual studies. (not like omnigamer's book, though i'm very thankful that exists as it spared me having to write that one first.)

* actually probably two books, with the other on glitching and narrative theory.

there's bits of it scattered around, but the only open access links are pretty old by now: this one on Joyce's Finnegans Wake and Metroid, and this one on Nabokov's Pale Fire and Super Mario Bros. there's a piece coming out soon that talks about The Typing of the Dead next to Colson Whitehead's Zone One zombie novel, and another on Flann O'Brien's The Third Policeman and Pac Man.

(it's not all novel/game mashups though, the books will be pretty much all videogames with only little bits of novels, films, etc. thrown in)

I honestly can't remember the last time I fought Majora legit. I've got Completionist Brainworms, so it's probably been like, two decades since I did that boss without getting the Great Deity Mask first.

It should maybe be mentioned that while it's a completely legit programming term, you don't see heaps implemented everywhere because they're mostly well-suited to memory-constrained environments like embedded systems - because every heap (at least that I know of) suffers in part (if not the majority) from O(log n) performance bounding (this means that the time it takes scales logarithmically in the worst cases, which is when you need it to be the most efficient)
