Then I'm semi-contemplating swiss-cheesing the lovely stock airbox and putting a new crank and pulley on the supercharger as I'm fairly sure the belt hasn't been done on schedule so why not. It's a 3.0TFSI with a fairly straightforward remap to ~400hp, but there's so much more to be had from that engine.

It has been weeks since I have posted my own RIDE. I went and got my next JDM import delivered and this may be the most photogenic car I have ever owned. Who knows how long I will have it before someone talks me out of it for a stack of dollars. I helped a friend with a YouTube video showing off his newly acquired JDM ST205 GT-Four (it is extremely cool/good and fast as balls)   They are fun because both are 1994 and silver and the fabric of the seats is the exact same color and pattern on both.   Then yesterday I took my two oldest out for a ride in the "new Japan car" and we hit the It is a ~30 year old designed machine but at 68,000 gentle miles it feels essentially brand new. I cannot describe how good this thing is in the dirt. Old Toyotas are great off road, everyone knows that. Imagine driving what is essentially a brand-new 30 year old Toyota in the dirt how Shoichiro Toyoda intended. It came alive; it bumbled and rumbled along without a single creak or squeak or rattle. The way it just effortlessly bounced through the ruts and tramlines of mud were amazing. The kids in back were laughing and egging me on to hit every puddle with just a little more squeeze of the pedal. 12/10 would go back in time and buy more Toyotas and spend the $10/25 minutes hosing down at the wash after.

I registered one of my trucks in Washington state at our land there a full 2.5 years before it ever touched Washington soil, with no VIN inspection, safety inspection, emissions inspection or test, or proof of insurance, while it had no engine in it, hadn't moved under its own power in 5 years, and was 3000 miles away. I brought the plates to it rather than the other way around. I proceeded to not insure it at all until it was actually drivable, then only put coverage on it when I was actually driving it (which amounted to like, a few hundred miles in total before leaving the state it was in forever), then drive it to Washington for the first time a few months ago. As far as I'm concerned Washington is the promised land for car people... Better have a garage though unless you only want to work on cars about 5 or 6 months of the year, if that. Washington does not give a gently caress about anything. I see people driving cars with no lights or bodywork on one corner and a shattered windshield every day. The police haven't even thought about pulling me over for this janky pile of junk, and if I had registered and driven it in Mass it would have gotten me an inspection or equipment violation ticket every time I drove it. I don't know why I didn't move out of that place as soon as I graduated college, honestly. E: oh hey pictures of the shitbox in question. I daily drive this pile of junk and never once have I even seen a police cars brake lights flicker going the other way, I've probably had 6 cops behind me and they straight up pretended I didn't exist.

I really, really hate "MyPlates" which is what Texas uses for custom plates. A 6 character plate is something like $90/yr and 7 characters is $100/yr. I've wanted to get a custom plate for my previous car and my new Miata, but I have no desire to give my fascist, backwards state any more money than I have to.

When I saw the dark silver in person I knew that was the color to get. Looked way better than on the configurator. It’s already impressed me by using 25% battery on a 67mi round trip with two other people and running heat in 25F weather. Can’t wait to stretch its legs in the summer!

Agreed with all of the above. It was fun to drive with the suspension I had on it, but gutless as all hell. Sounded like a sewing machine so I took the muffler off and didn't put anything back on. Sounded like a louder sewing machine. At some point in the next few weeks I'll try and put together a little tutorial with it's own thread using free software so that there aren't any barriers other than time to do it (blender, gimp or something I guess?). I'll show how to import a model (there's many 'decent' free ones out there for different cars), make a UV wrap for it, use that as the template to make a texture for the wrap, then put that on the model. I'll be doing it with 3dsmax, illustrator, and photoshop for mine which has... a bit higher barrier for entry. But it also lets me work with vectors more easily so I don't need to worry about scaling for printing, and design it in a CMYK color space on my calibrated monitor so it's as true to life as it can be when printed (among getting samples printed as well). Edit: Also that design is simple enough that you could probably have the car wrapped in white and red at the appropriate heights, with a gold vinyl band over the seam.

It's 100% car dependent. Based on not only the surface area being covered but the complexity of it. Additionally the type of vinyl plays in to it as well, as cheap stuff would be a pain in the rear end to install, but have a lower cost material wise. If you're printing one and it has details that need to align etc, that would add to it as well I'm sure. When I was looking at R8s I was quoted 2.5-3k to have one printed and applied. That's a very small car, but does have some curves to it. When I get closer to doing this one I'll let people know what kind of costs it is.

I am still unsure on what exactly to do with my RF. I'm torn between some green-purple color shift that reminds me of my S14 240sx (Avery Dennison Lightning Ridge), some shade of /good/ yellow and maybe keeping the roof/windshield/buttresses black, a chrome-ish green, or if I could find a cool fluorescent red/pink color in a gloss finish and not satin or matte that would be neat too. The Elan two tone scheme seems like it could be accomplished with a two tone wrap+gold at the seam like was said, but I have no idea how good that would look. Or if the seam would collect dirt or something without having to then do a clear PPF on top of that which sounds like it would get very expensive. I was quoted $3400 for a wrap + $450 for a ceramic coating from one shop in Austin. I don't really know how to shop around for this, much less pick a color. The cost is also kinda silly if it will only last a few years.

That sounds like an absolute rip off. Especially for a car that small. If you want to shop around, look for either car vinyl application places (they'll almost always be just a small garage with one or two dudes doing them) or for shops that do commercial vehicle wraps. You will be able to tell if a place does commercial stuff because they will have printers on hand. Sun exposure, latitude, etc all play a major role in how long the film lasts. The top parts will need to be replaced more often (maybe every 2-3 years). Everything else would be 5-10 years depending on the brand of film. It's not cheap, but it's also 5x cheaper than getting a new, good paint job. And it protects the paint. When you balance out the costs, you get around the same number of years with vinyl as you would with a new quality paint job. And it leaves the paint underneath intact.
