After a little back and forth with the post office I finally got my present

First (not pictured a box), a note from Santa, in which besides a description of the present I'm named HONORARY SCOT, so I'm already shopping for a Claymore.

Sad thing first the mug didn't survive the trip, gonna save the piper tho.

Next, a swarm of bees that was promptly contained. a can of Haggis (I've always been curious about it, finally have a chance to taste it), a documentary about Scottish workers going on strike in solidarity of the Chilean people during Pinochet times (I had no idea of this , that was a great show of humanity on their part, gonna watch it as soon as I can) and ROBOT BUG cat toy

And then

What's in the case?

A practice chanter for bagpipes, can't wait to drive my neighbors insane.

And lastly a Scottish flag, to show my new status

Bonus, my parents cats vs Robot Bug

I know, I know, you just got it. I'm outing myself here.

I want to let you know, regarding the painting in the note I reference. I have worked and reworked it and it just... sucks. it's awful. It has been mentally exhausting and painful to pick up a brush again for reasons in your letter. I'm going to make it right, and I hated what I was working on. So to appease you and whatever old god I need help from, I have a public update on the original intended painting as of about an hour ago. I also performed a sacrifice in hopes of getting some of ability to paint again. I hope this is sufficient.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnBY55SS5hA

...because I really liked that cat.

Bravo! I think it's very sweet. And very appropriate for the two cats pictured--one's a young little poo poo who is constantly getting into trouble and destroying things, and the other is an old, used to be young little poo poo who used to constantly get into trouble and destroy things but now just wants to snuggle and sleep all day. So the destruction of their painting is entirely thematic and appropriate.

Speaking of, I got a package last night:

Let's see!

I read it. I really appreciated your kind note. I joined SASS this year after over 10 years of being on this site because I felt a greater need to reach out to others and connect, so every sentiment in the note was well-received.

Let's take a look at the generous jumble of goodies inside:

We've got a Santa ball shooter with an ominous-looking mouth

:hmmyes: We've got 3D printed baby Yoda sucking on Boba Fett's bare bosom

We've got a coin with some sage life advice. Friends shouldn't sell you drugs--they should share them with you. My wife really liked this and immediately claimed this one for herself.

So this is a very nice and interesting print. As I had said in my post, I'm a socialist, a big nerd, and like video games, and this intersects with a number of interests. P.O.U.M was the Partido Obrero de Unificacion Marxista, the Worker's Party of Marxist Unification. This was the group George Orwell fought with in the Spanish Civil War, a fact I know due to being a big nerd who has played Hearts of Iron for years and knows a bunch of random poo poo about the Spanish Civil War. It was an independent communist party that reluctantly participated in the Spanish Popular Front and was independent and anti-Stalinist. It wound up on the wrong side of left politics (a common occurrence) and got purged by Stalinist forces. Orwell had to flee the country and was tried in absentia for treason by the Stalinists.

Art books are always a challenge as a gift, especially an anonymous one. Art is personal, varies in interpretation, and can bring forth challenging emotions. The story behind this book is tough as well. But for me, this book was touching. I have--had--a friend, the one we all did, the one who burns bright and burns too quickly. This made me think of him. Which might sound like a bad thing, but I assure you is very welcome. I have a nice big library where I will nestle this book on the right shelf. I'll open it sometimes to think of him and think of your friend, too. Thank you.

And here's the whole spread!

Thank you very much Droogie for the gifts. They were spot on and thoughtful. And the video is just the cherry on top. 10/10 Santa

Man, I am so glad you are enjoying. Welcome to SASS. I have made an actionable plan to provide you with lasting cat décor without driving myself crazy. I used to put in a fun painting with everything I shipped for SASS even though I was crap at it, and I took a fair few years away from SASS and actually got serious as an artist. I honestly had a bit of a breakdown over this (not your fault) because I couldn't make my mind work with my hands. I haven't painted since January 2020, my friend died in October 2019 and was a huge inspiration to me. I'm so sorry to hear of your friend. I painted like three paintings immediately in the wake of his death and have been unable to go back to it after that. But I'm trying. I have a new plan.

SASS can be a mixed bag. There is a core of people that make it so wonderful. There are people that I can't figure out why they signed up. The white elephant aspect always kept me coming back though and I've missed the hell out of it. I was so happy to get a veteran goon first timer.

The video- well, I'm dragging you along into a years-long joke, god, it may be 8 to 10 years old at this point. Since you're new to this part, I made a series of shorts implying that I packed up one of my cats unwillingly into a box and literally booted it into the yard to post it (was this originally for Comrade Quack? I don't even remember at this point). The joke went on that I found the box days later still in the front yard and was dismayed to find the remnants of boxes scattered in the yard of even earlier santees, complete with cat bones underneath moldering cardboard.

The videos are long gone as I was working in the animal welfare space until recently and thought better of them being out there, even though they were clearly a laugh and no cats were ever harmed in the making of them.

Anyway, thanks for attending my TED talk. I'm glad you're on board and I hope you try your luck next year. I'll be doing it again. and truly- expect more in the near future from me. Cheers.

Waffle.
Hurrah, hurrah!  SASSmas has arrived and it is a joy!

Started off with some promising packaging, and what's that?  Do I hear a faint buzzing from within...?

Ho ho holy moly!  A spectacular felt hive with beaded bees.  Pretty heavy too – a paperweight?  Doorstop?  So many potential uses!

Another heavy item – some Salt Lake City hot sauce.  I have yet to sample it and am a bit pathetic with spicy stuff, so I may need to prepare a fire extinguisher to hose directly into my mouth before trying it, but I'll definitely give it a go, and I love the bottle/branding.

A lovely elf/fairy print, complete with bee companion:

Plus satisfying graphic bee stickers, a useful Utah Utes fabric coaster, and a fab framed cross-stitch 'Peace' decoration.

At this point, when moving all my goodies together for a group shot, I somehow 'clinked' my beehive against the sauce and realised it wasn't just made with heavy materials – there was something inside it???

Opening the door revealed...delicious looking honey!  It actually took me an embarrassingly long time to extract it from the hive though.  Guess those bees were protecting their produce...

Ta da!  What a haul!

Thank you so much Santa!  I didn't see a note so not sure of your identity but ta' for your magnificent efforts, and your patience at my poor response times to messages.  I hope you were equally fortunate in your own Santa.

Merry SASSmas and a Happy New Year!

On the 15th I'll assign you to one of the volunteers (if available) and hopefully you'll get un-shafted.
There's no re-re-sass (that I manage, anyway) and I expect the mods will close the thread eventually. I'll leave the site up until its SSL expires, which I think will be at the end of the month.
