Great day of action.

My friend Ura put up a great fight and put together excellent heads up sumo. I'm glad he went that approach as opposed to going for a leg pick.

loving ankles loving up my gimmick TAKA team.

I'd regretfully like to trade TAKAkeisho for the inferiorly-named Terunofuji or Shodai, in that order, like literally everyone else.

Don't want to feel left out on all this trading action so requesting trade of Chiyonokuni for Abi or Myogiryu or Tobizaru in that order of preference.

I think he was trying for an arm lock like he used on Harumafuji but Terunofuji did a great job keeping his arms pinned

Holding on to Wakatakakage for now. Telling myself he'll probably have a much easier second half of the basho.

There'll be a fun match at the top of Makushita tonight: Ryuden is fighting Atamifuji, Terunofuji's 19 year old stablemate with a 38-6 record and two lower division yusho. He beat Yago pretty easily on day 2 when they brought him up for a juryo match; it'll be interesting to see how he does against a maegashira-level opponent.

Looking up what happened to Ryuden and Yago led me to seeing that my man Akiseyama is fighting again. Working his way back up the Makushita ranks.

Takakeisho needs to find some way to better balance his conditioning and power.

I still say that he's just too heavy.

Going by sumodb, he was 149kg(329lbs) for his last yusho, which was the playoff win over Teru back in November 2020. For this basho, sumodb has him at 183kg(403lbs) and he just can't carry that kind of weight. He looks gassed out just walking around.

His body language and expressions look all hosed up. He's pushing through stuff he shouldn't. Losing balance the way he did against Terunofuji was weird.

He might be able to grit out but he was clearly concussed and that injuries like that still don't give a way to sit out for his health without losing ranks is a big problem in sumo.

There’s a bunch of leg-tripping techniques, but as you said, they are rare since you’re pretty much hosed if it doesn’t work.

I think maximum hilarity would be 7th win against Mitakeumi on day 14 and then 8th win against Terunofuji on day 15, clearing the way for an Abi zensho-yusho
