That's the "geocolor" product, IIRC in nighttime regions it switches to superimposing the shortwave infrared channel over Blue Marble Dark Mode

Krakatau was said to have sounded like a cannon at a distance of three thousand miles, but in 1883 observations were naturally harder to come by.
