“gently caress it, I’m going to go listen to some ska,” is solid life advice all around.

Autocorrect tried to turn “ska” into “amazing,” and I’m here for you for once, Autocorrect.

Mojave 3. That first album was strange and wonderful at the time. They went off the rails after that IMO. Never much cared for Halstead's acoustic stuff.

I saw No Joy last week and they were awesome. (Though weirdly using pre-recorded bass tracks as far as I could tell.)

I missed this at release, but asked what it was at the merch booth. In the noise I could only hear "collaboration with Spaceman 3" and I did a "shut up and take my money". (Looking it up now, it's a collaboration with Peter Kember of Spaceman 3)

Not disappointed:

The whole EP is here: https://nojoy.bandcamp.com/album/no-joy-sonic-boom-2

The non-radio edit of Obsession is a bit excessive. The synth on it reminded me of Ulrich Schnauss actually.

Was really excited to get Motherhood on vinyl too. Absolutely loved that album and it was a pleasant surprise in a new direction.

Apparently Ride are putting out reissues at some point this year. And 2 of their UK dates on their Nowhere 30th Anniversary Tour are sold out. That's cool.

Trailer for Creation Stories! A biopic of Alan McGee starring Ewen Bremer (Trainspotting). Into it, especially if they get signoff for a righteous soundtrack.

Hm, I think I heard Ride at the end?

This looks cool. Good ol' Spud. Awful thumbnail though, thought it was Hannibal Lecter at first.

Yep that was definitely Ride.
I'm half an hour in and I've heard a bunch of stuff pretty sure not included there, so we'll see. I'm surprised a movie such as this has no full soundtrack listing anywhere online. Totally skipped on IMDB.

Edit: they're definitely on the soundtrack.

So I watched the movie. It was "better-than-fine" but I'd only recommend it to fans of Creation, and totally worth a watch in that case. I feel like it was really trying to be 24 Hour Party People at times, but perhaps to its detriment, it took less poetic license, and may have actually been more authentic? The problem is it's told a a series of vignettes. Some are great, some fall flat. Also it doesn't help that as this movie is being reasonably authentic, after some really great parts, it peters out on McGee's political career.

Spoilers for the soundtrack on the case anyone prefers to be surprised.

Most of the soundtrack was pretty good, and there are a LOT of tracks. Lots of Primal Scream especially, but I wonder if there were some weird licensing shenanigans going on, like only very bit MBV parts, and a couple tracks from Ride's Going Blank Again but nada from Nowhere. Countless bands were ignored, though Teenage Fanclub at least had posters and t-shirts in the movie. I was surprised that Slowdive was completely absent. I think the poster highlighted ... The Boo Radleys, but I didn't even notice them.

no Slowdive is disappointment :negative:

24 Hour Party People is about madchester right? I've only heard that scene mentioned when I was reading about Lush, I don't really know much about it.

What was McGee's political career?

Yeah 24 Hour Party People takes place in Madchester, and it's almost like a prequel to Creation. But the former is also a great movie where you don't have to be in the scene for to enjoy.

I'm not 100% clear on it, but McGee at least was a major donor in Tony Blair's campaign and involved in it. He eventually disavowed the Labour Party and Blair.

24 Hour Party People is mostly about Tony Wilson and Factory Records. It’s a fun movie though, and just a passing knowledge of Joy Division and the Mondays is more than you need maybe.

Does the McGee movie feature JAMC or even have a guy playing Kevin Shields? Any cameos from real artists? The Factory movie had cameos from Mani from the Stone Roses, real Shaun Ryder, and I THINK Mark E. Smith.

Carl Barat, Brix Smith, and probably some other musos cameo. A complete unknown plays Kevin Shields, and Bobby Gillespie and the Reids are cast from J&MC.

E: actors are cast as them, for clarity.

I'm curious if any goons might be able to point me in the direction of someone whose done video ad's. Should I post maybe in the mart? I don't recall seeing threads like that in the mart besides bibeo games or food items. I'm thinking of a few 5-10 second video clips of songs I can target to some people overseas. I think it would be cool to be a basement/living room recording goon (who also does coffee) who doesn't play live but is big in a different country. I have serious goals as you can tell.
