Which is 23 races. Yikes. So which would you recommend cutting (with maybe one or two added back in)? Let's see some ideas. See mine below:
If you're even more aggressive, you can cut a couple more to 16, but I think adding the rotations helps keep some scarcity.

Baku is a fun track, Ditch France instead. Also just ditch Zandvoort outright or switch it with Assen. Also that predictions list was from a semi-joking "fuckit why not" prediction.

I grew up watching and loving baseball but the games are too loving long now and there's too many of them to care in any given season and I see a lot of parallels with where racing in general is headed. Even MotoGP is spilling past 20 races now and its hard for me to care what's happening in it the last few races. The most alarming thing for me is how quickly everyone was willing to just have races back to back at the same circuit instead of just having one race less. I'm almost certain once the current contracts expire both FOM and Dorna going to try and negotiate that in with certain circuits to squeeze more blood from the stone.

There's a reason every week of the NFL is a bigger event than the NBA or MLB's regular season, and it's that scarcity. and I think you're right as well, doing back to back races in MotoGP and Formula 1 should only have been a last resort during COVID-impacted years (because they have minimum number of races to put on to meet the TV contracts), and I'm really hopeful 2022 isn't one of those years. I can understand the travel and transit costs being minimized by doing back-to-back races in one spot, but it's not great. At least MotoGP kept a couple of weeks between rounds at Misano last fall.

Paul Ricard sucks rear end. Jeddah can stay but they have to find a better system for getting debris off the track. Swap Bahrain or Russia for Germany. Portugal is a lot better than some of the tracks on the calendar too. They'd never get rid of Spain but I would be happy to swap that one out for Portugal.

The NBA and MLB play multiple games a week (MLB is drat near every day). F1 will still have scarcity on par with the NFL which has an 18 week season and 4 playoff rounds - so 22 weeks of football things. As far as the quality of the races - that's more impacted by the level of competition. The 22 race calendar for 2021 was wildly entertaining because of the Max-Lewis competition. If a season ends up like 2019 or 2020 and is just single team domination from start to finish, it will drag - but that same issue would exist no matter the length of the season if only one team is reasonably competing for the title. Do all 23. Add the Daytona 24, go back to Watkins Glen and make it a solid 25. gently caress it run them at Le Mans too. Add F1 to the 24 hour events.

Daytona 24 last year was ~4,600 km.

They're adding yet another race this year (23 vs 22), but the season will be two weeks shorter overall (35 weeks vs 37 last year). Way too many races and too long of a season, but maybe having less "break" time will help a bit?
