That night we performed the rite and opened the gate.
Halfway through, I went to fix us both a coke float.
By the time I got back, he'd gone insane.
Plus, he'd left the gate open and there was evil everywhere.

I think all 73-87 C10s had discs on the front. The Grand Prix was 4 corner drums which ended up being moot as no one had new drums available so I just put discs on the front and back. Biggest issue is getting the brake lines loose which of course means remaking them when they break due to the line being corroded into the fitting.

I was trying to install the Subaru OEM subwoofer accessory into my 86 today, but the subwoofer harness doesn't match the back or my Toyota head unit.

Time to figure out wiring diagrams or this Subaru dealer's return policy. :sigh:

If I can't figure it out, there might be a listing on SA Mart. :v:

Dude haven’t you been through seventeen or fifty alternators on the baconator? That’s rotten luck! Are they parts store reman units or new?

Nah, just swapped between the 3 I have about that many times. The original one popped the voltage regulator + has a locked up clutch, the junkyard one stops charging above ~2500 RPM (but has a good clutch), the brand new OEM one showed up beat to poo poo.

So while it's down I went ahead and went through some of the underhood wiring. I knew the alternator plug was jacked - junkyard pigtail crimped/heatshrinked on. Found 2 broken injector plugs (clips broken off) - soldered/heatshrinked a couple of junkyard pigtails on. I don't like to solder in general (I'm not that good at it, and don't have steady hands), especially in an automotive application, but it's too tight of a space for crimps, so...

Thanks, but I figured out how to change the connectors and I’m redoing them using a couple Scosche kits.

The sub has simple wiring, so most pins are passed thru.

Alternator Bigaloo again. O'Reillys finally got my new-new OEM replacement in. It's gotten to where I can go from hood up to hood down faster than setting the radio presets.. :sigh:

What a PITA this has been, but at the store level they were great. Just, uh, not gonna order anything fragile or heavy from them for home delivery again.

I was gonna get the exhaust finished, but got a case of the ole rona yesterday. So, I got everything unboxed and ready to go until I get past the worst of it. Quick question for the thread: Leave these natural, or blast them and get them cerakoted flat black?

The supercharger (and bracket) is flat black, as well as the intake plumbing. The coil covers are black/red, so I've been leaning toward black, but I do appreciate the nice stainless headers.

Yep. So much real estate for just a speedo.
A lot of the pedestrian B-bodies and G-bodies well into the '80s did it, too. Hell, pretty much every GM.

I've used this for years from everything from headers to turbo exhaust housings and it's fantastic for a diy coating. The cheap harbor freight airbrush is fine for applying it.

I actually bought some of the air cure cerakote (C-7600 Glacier Black), I just have to blast it to get a rough enough surface for adhesion. Once I took them out of the box, I wasn't sure if I liked the natural stainless look or whether I should go through with black in the engine bay.

Dreaming of Shock Diamonds

Rolled 60k km on the Macan yesterday. Which means it is oil change time.
FCP Euro messed up the order and forgot to include a new drain plug. They're single use and really shouldn't be re-used.

No big deal, a bag of 10 was $19.99 locally.
Since the EA888 engine (and it's variants) is used in drat near everything VAG parts are easy enough to find.

Assuming the service position.

No pictures of the under/aerotray. It is huge and is held on with 16 T25 bolts and two big plastic plugs(?).

This is what the underside looks like without it though.

Working on the 2.0L in a longitudinal configuration, especially in an engine bay designed for a twin turbo V6, is so very nice. There's so much room for activities.

It takes longer to remove the undertray than it does to drain the oil and replace the filter.

Not pictured, the :filez: PIWIS VM :filez: used to reset the service reminder.

I also have a Durametric but official support for the Macans ends at 2015 and it can therefore only reset interim and main service flags. Not oil change flags. Which is such a stupid bug. One that Durametric has refused to fix despite my annual trouble tickets.

Does anyone know of a company that makes metal undertrays? Now that it's out of warranty, we want to take it to a few rally-x events and there is no way the fabric tray will survive.

Put one side of the control arms, spindle, brakes on the C10 and got hosed by the brake lines being 40 year old brake lines. Can’t get the fitting out of then proportioning valve so now probably have to take that out and hope the other lines do come out or I will be running new lines for the whole thing since flare unions are satan.

I'm not sure if he does it for yours, but SkidPlateGuy makes them for a variety of makes and models. They're a bit pricey but I've heard nothing but positive reviews from people in my various car clubs.

This is why they make us do word problems.

I vote black. It keeps heat in the exhaust and out of the engine bay without the hassle and fire risk of header wrap.

Got up this morning feeling a little better, so I went out and turned the heat up in the garage. Hung the headers and sprayed them with Eastwood Internal Header coating. Once that dries, I'll sand the headers and hit them with Cerakote.

Got off the couch this afternoon and ended up getting them sprayed.

why would black paint keep heat in the exhaust? my first thought is that it would do the opposite

the emissivity of bare stainless seems like it would be much lower than that of black paint. but im probably not thinking about this right.
