Always get an MMR and whooping cough booster since you never know when you'll encounter someone who isn't vaxxed and can spread both. I may be biased since I live and work in an where there are a lot of people who don't believe in either vaccine.

Not sure what that's about yet but we'll have to look into it as well.

My wife had to get a titer for Hep-B for clinicals and found she was basically not at all immune. She had the full series and all but apparently they're finding immunity waning over time.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if titers or boosters for the previous "permanent" vaccines became a thing.

I'm not sure what exactly they're trying here? They won an auction for a copy of a screenplay and think they own production rights now?

Or did they buy the rights to the film? Which obviously doesn't give the rights to the books

e:

considering what they expected it to go for, it can't be the exclusive rights to much of anything

did they just pay that much for a physical copy of a book without any rights to anything being conferred

I think at this point I'm just super frustrated because I did so much work earlier on this case that no one followed up with so now I'm going to have to push to remove this kiddo because they are not safe. I hate removing kids and do my absolute best to avoid it but this is a case where the parent is unquestionably unsafe and it sucks. I've done both the investigative and the long term case carrying ends of CPS (plus non-case carrying intensive superivison and fatality/near fatality reviews) and I'll be hitting 8 years soon but there are times where it just doesn't get easier. Right now I just want someone to give me bullshit rich people custody cases all day, every day.

Any of y'all know poo poo about ACA subsidies? I'm trying to find out information for a friend.

She lives in Florida, like me, is 26, and is a full time student with no other source of income outside of her grants. She has a decent chunk saved up from some injury settlements and past work that she doesn't need to work, plus she's not really capable of working while going to school due to physical/mental disability. These limitations are not enough to qualify for SSI or SSDI.

Florida has not accepted the full funding from the feds to expand medicaid because the people in charge are monsters. As a result she's below the FPL for income and is not eligible for either medicaid or any ACA subsidies. The most basic plan costs over $300/mo without them.

I have free government healthcare through the VA, so I have absolutely no clue how private insurance works. I've tried digging around but can't find affirmative answers.

My big question is - does a pell grant count as income for ACA subsidies? If so, we can finagle that to get her above $12,800 for the year without too much trouble. Also, when you have a subsidized plan, do the subsidy payments count towards your deductible or is it only the actual amount that you spend out of pocket?

$300 a month for someone under 30 sounds loving insane to me. Before I had work provided health insurance I was usually able to find something for less than $100. Maybe recommend reaching out to charities that are focused on her specific disabilities?

These are unsubsidized rates because she doesn't have a job. There is no charity that steps in to provide coverage in Florida. She's hosed unless she is able to show $13k in income for the year - otherwise she won't qualify for subsidies.

If you don't know, you only get PPACA subsidies if you're above 100% of the FPL which is $12,800. It used to be between 100-400% but the republican congress under trump removed the subsidy cap. The reason it starts at 100% is because medicaid was expanded to cover everyone up to 100%, but it cannot be forced upon the states. The thought was that no state would be cruel enough to gently caress over every adult who made less than the FPL and isn't permanently disabled.

This is to incentivize states to accept free federal money for expanded medicaid - because people below 100% of the poverty line aren't supposed to have any healthcare costs.

The feds cannot force states to accept because of supreme court rulings, so such poison pills are often included in legislation to be a stick. For another example see federal highway funds being tied to raising alcohol sales age to 21 and Louisiana's stubbornness and the suffering the state has faced because of it. There are 12 states that still gently caress over everyone below the federal poverty line with regard to healthcare. Most of these people just go without as a result. So now we're doing things like trying to figure out how much it will cost in taxes for friends that own a business to put her on the payroll with fake income versus the $4200 minimum she'd have to pay in premiums with no job.

If we claim her pell grants as taxable income and pay taxes on those, it might be the cheapest way. This entire system is completely hosed, and I'm glad I don't ever have to deal with this myself.

Yes, I put a plastic baby in the cake after it's baked. You just poke it through the bottom of the cake before you put the icing on. I've never cut through the baby in the cake before. It's plastic but it's pretty hard to cut. I think you'd have to be pretty deliberate about it if you wanted to cut it in half.

I think you can put it in before baking, especially if it's an edible object like a dried bean or something, but every king cake I've ever had in the past 20+ has had a plastic baby and you wouldn't want to bake plastic into your cake.
