When pandemic first started and stores didn't know what was what and got shut down and then reopened I would hood up mask on run riot on Walmart. Haven't in a while anyway. I wanted a yo-yo the other day and walmart didn't have any.

I had a week long work trip several years ago and they specifically told us just to pack jeans and t-shirts. The 2nd to last day of the trip the guy leading the course goes "Oh and we're going to see the CEO tomorrow so dress nice!" I went to Target and found a pair of pants and a polo shirt for under 40 bucks total, and the woman checking me out couldn't get the pants to scan correctly anyway so she just marked them as $5.

i don’t shoplift anymore but my thing that I do frequently is get really high end produce and then enter it as the shittiest possible version of that produce, like I get fancy organic heirloom carrots and enter them as lovely regular carrots, or I get Asian pears and enter them as regular pears. never been questioned and if anyone ever does i’ll just be like hurr sorry i thought it was a different pear. What are they going to do, kill me

One time I stacked a bunch of smaller Rubbermaids in a bigger one, and told the check out person twice I had them in there. They just said "okay" each time and didn't open the thing or anything. It wasn't really shoplifting it was a gift from an employee

precision posted:that oesn't sound very plausible to me. youre suggesting that target knows people are stealing, keeps records of them havng stoled, and waits until the records show they stole enough, and then... calls the cops...? They have a dedicated investigation branch. https://corporate.target.com/_media/TargetCorp/csr/pdf/Target-Forensic-Services-Fact-Sheet.pdf Note "organized retail crime." They don't give a poo poo about, like, a guy stealing a pack of batteries but if you keep going back to the same place or coordinate with other people Target will absolutely ship all the evidence off to their weird CSI lab to connect the dots. With modern software that can track people as they move around, entering and leaving different cameras' views, it's not even terribly difficult. I used to work at Target and it really depends on what kind of bullshit you want to put up with as a retail person. Do you prefer getting harassed by the methed-up tweaker that’s also day drunk at Wal-Mart, or do you want to get harassed by the coked-up wife of a lawyer who is also day drunk at Target.

it’s definitely not standard practice but there have been cases of targets and Walmarts that build a case on a shoplifter until they accumulate a certain cash value and then drop the hammer. This only happens if you’re stealing an absurd amount of stuff though I’m sure

I worked at target for seven years many moons ago. Absolutely wild to me that when I worked there I made $6.90 an hour and once got sent home for wearing a red striped shirt instead of solid red and nowadays target employees make $18/hr, wear whatever they want, and completely ignore all customers. This is the way it should be, I’m just jealous that things were so lovely for me.

The Loss Prevention at Target was way more serious than any other store I’ve ever worked at. In retrospect It seems weird that we’d get a report that somebody stole from two other locations earlier in our district and be on the lookout and sure enough they’d come into our store the same day to steal the same items. But yeah it was always large things like just tossing TVs into a shopping cart and walking out with it.

idk if this kind of retail was like this but at department stores we as the employees were the primary targets of the loss prevention people. ESPECIALLY after we left. I went back once six months later and got tailed by a rentacop the entire time. Like he was on me immediately; either it was a tremendous coincidence or they had some serious facecam tech
